The process of uploading auctions seems to do some reformatting (dropping spaces & line breaks)which inteferes with a little JavaScript coding I want to include. Is there a way to ensure that the uploading process does not result in refomatting of the description?

Hello,

Could you give us an example of this to test with? You should not be losing anything from the description text when uploading your listings.

In the past I was having the same problem, so I dropped Java. It could have been me ...dont know but I am interested in the followup to this thread.

Thanks

I believe a while back this came up in the Ebay Outlook forum. As well as I recall, Ebay is disabling java from their end. It is against their rules to post an auction with Java in it.

The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

Please see eBay item #859373267 where the upload has resulted in the JavaScript not working. As you likely know, the first line of JavaScript after the HTML open commenting tag cannot be on the same line as the commenting tag. Other lines commented for the script also will not work properly as the // is not at the beginning of the line.

Hi Prissimiss,

eBay is strict when it comes to javascript in auctions, so chances are it was disabled by eBay when the auction went live. I would recommend contacting their customer service to see what their rules are regarding the usage of java script.

Sonya,

If you go to the URL http://forums.ebay.com/[email protected]^[email protected] you will see where "Bob" has listed (among other things) a javascript for preventing right clicks on auctions. He is then thanked by an eBay person for his services. Also, Marsha Collier of eBay for Dummies fame gives one on her site. She also recommended doing this at the eBay College held here in Tampa a couple months ago.

I have done some searching and found only one reference to Javascript by eBay and it had to do with putting in javascript that interfered with site operations. There are numerous postings about people using javascript to prevent picture theft without eBay responding to the negative.

I can not see where eBay has done anything to prevent javascript from working. The javascript I have included works fine if I revise the description on-line to put in one line break. This line break was in the upload I sent you, but seems to disappear in the upload process.

The following is the URL of an auction uploaded by Auction Showcase in which all the breaks remained in place.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=858429362

Please identify the cause of your system apparently scrunching everything together.

Thanks.

Hi Prissimiss,

I will send you an email -- if you wouldn't mind sending me the java script you are including, I would like to test this from my account so I can see what happens. Let me know if that is alright.

The following was received from eBay. As you can see they approve of this use of javascript.

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to write to us with your concerns. I would
be happy to assist you further.

I think that you're referring to the script to prevent members from
right clicking and then saving the picture to their hard drive, correct?
Although most javascript is not allowed on eBay, there are codes that
you can use.

You may also want to visit our Images/HTML discussion board for more

You can also access that board by using the 'Community' link at the top
of most every eBay page.

I appreciate the opportunity of being able to help you. Thank you for
using eBay for your on line trading needs. We are committed to making
your eBay experiences pleasant and fulfilling.
