PALO ALTO, Calif., July 22 (Reuters) - Internet auction
company eBay Inc <EBAY.O> this week will expand fixed-price
selling on its site with a new option enabling sellers to offer
items for sale exclusively at fixed prices.
About 19 percent of all the transactions on eBay are
already settled in fixed-price format, under a system that
gives buyers the option of bidding or offering a fixed price by
clicking "buy it now."
Under the new system, sellers may offer items for sale at a
fixed price with no option for bidding. A spokesman for the
company said the move was a natural progression in its efforts
to offer more options to sellers, many of whom have suggested
that fixed-price selling works best on some items.
He stressed, however, that auction selling was expected to
remain the preferred means of buying and selling goods on
