I maintain a web site and also sell on eBay. When a buyer from eBay goes through AW checkout, they fill out the addressing information, select a shipping preference and then are presented a confirmation page. At the top of this confirmation page is a link "To pay for this order, click here to go to PayPal".
When my eBay buyers click this link, PayPal perceives the buyers as coming from our web site and defaults with our web site shipping charges when the eBay posted shipping charges may be higher or lower. We package products differently for eBay than on the web site.
I repeatedly have to refund or ask for more payment when my eBay buyers follow the link provided by AW.
AW needs to come up with a way to help me with not angering my customers. Is it not possible for the AW link to PayPal to "appear" as if it were coming from eBay rather than from the 'generic' web? My customers do not understand (nor do I) why they are being presented with defaulted shipping charges different from the advertised fee. I have spent enough time on the phone with PayPal and tracking server logs to see that this is caused by the PayPal link on AW.
Please help before I get slammed again.

Hi Bill,
Is your website the AW store, or a completely different site? Also did this recently start happening, or has it happened since setting up a shipping preference default in PayPal?

Thank you for your such prompt reply. I truly appreciate this kind of customer service.
The web site is different and separate from the AW storefront I maintain. The problem has occurred on and off and only recently has PayPal been able to isolate and replicate the problem.
You may visit our web site, www.ebusinesscables.com, and see the shipping charges if you like. You can also view shipping fees on any of our auctions. Our DUTCH auctions do have the same S&H fees as the web site but nothing else does.

Any shipping amounts that are passed over to PayPal through the link on the WBN should correspond to what you have entered as your shipping preferences here. If you can provide us with some of the auction ID numbers where the problems have happened, we can take a look and double check this for you.

One of the auctions in question is eBay auction No. 2047662028. The S&H in description and payment details is $5.95. The buyer was presented with our web site default of $4.60 for items costing between $0.01 - $9.99.

The only payment option in the auction posting and as listed in the AW inventory is $5.95. PayPal received the link as listed at the top and passed our web site fees for the S&H. This doesn't happen when buyers click a PayNow link on the eBay page - only when they follow the link provided by AW.

I'm sorry about the confusion. Apparently, PayPal will not allow single-item-payment buttons (which includes the link at the end of AW checkout), to override the shipping you've set up in your PayPal profile UNLESS you've specifically allowed this.
From PayPal's documentation, this is what you need to do: (My comments in [brackets].)
Overriding Your Shipping Calculation
In some cases, you may want to set a special shipping rate for an item (e.g. if the item is especially heavy and costs more to ship or if it is a service which does not require shipping charges [or you are using AuctionWatch's calculations]).
To make sure that the shipping code included in your Single Item Purchase button overrides your Profile Shipping Calculation settings:
- Go to the `Shipping Calculations’ page in your [PayPal] Profile
- Click the `Click here to allow transaction-based shipping values to override the profile shipping settings listed above (if profile settings are enabled)’ check box
- Click Save
This may affect other users as well, so we'll try to get an announcement or something similar out, and add a note to the preferences page. It's unfortunate that there is this extra step you need to do at PayPal, and that the PayPal customer service didn't know to tell you about it, either.
