This is a quote from some of the AW checkout information:
"When buyers click on the AuctionWatch Checkout button, they will be directed to a confirmation page to verify their identity as the authorized buyers for their items."

Winning bidders must provide the email address that they use at the auction site in order to verify that they are the authorized buyer of an item.
In cases where a winning bidder's email address matches their user id (and is therefore visible to the public), they will be sent an additional confirmation e-mail once they enter the checkout process. These winning bidders must then use the link in that confirmation e-mail in order to complete checkout.
