I am just back from vacation and am trying to figure out this new listing change you have made - I have saved "inventory items" for each of the types of items i list and customarily go in to change the "category" which changes with each listing (i sell postcards and each state is a different category)..with this new system my default category comes up when i first select "create listing" but it seems i am unable to change the default until later where "edit category" appears..this adds another step (time is money!) - I tried to go in and remove the default category from my inventory item but am not able to do so - it seems it MUST have a category...is there a way to select the proper category from the first screen or to remove default category from inventory item so the correct category selection can be made from the first screen? this seems to be an unecesssary time waster and is making me CRAZY!

Hi Neglus,

You can't remove the category from an inventory item -- the items must have a category. You don't even have to change anything, if it says that your item does not require item specifics. Unfortunately there isn't a way to choose your categories after going to the ebay set up page.

Sonya

HMMM..maybe i am doing this whole thing wrong? In order to save verbage that i use time and time again I have created an inventory item for each type of postcard i list..ie: chrome (the new shiny ones), linen unused (linen like from the 1940s with postmarks), linen unused (1940S without postmarks)...in order to set up an inventory item i had to choose a category (i just chose category "20198" - collectibles - postcards-us towns - california as a starting point - when I did my 50 listings/day before all i had to do was to change the category to make the listing fit the card i was listing and add a few items in the description..now I have to do a bunch more clicks..and wait for the screen to return once the category is edited...YUCK!!!! This would be alright if I only listed one or two items a day but even a minute's delay can add an hour to my daily workload! any ideas on how i can work with this?

WHY CAN'T WE OVERRIDE THE INVENTORY CATEGORY IF WE WANT TO? WHY MAKE US DO THE EXTRA STEP ? IT WOULD WORK MUCH BETTER IF WE WERE ALLOWED TO CHANGE THE CATEGORY ON THE FIRST PAGE INSTEAD OF HAVING TO EDIT IT LATER!!

I would like you to consider the suggestion that a change made to the category on the opening page of "create" listing overide the category in the saved profile/inventory item or at least tell me why not??? Would save a lot of clicks and page load time! Thanks

THANKS Sonja - it only stands to reason that a user would only want to deal with the category issue once and that he/she is not likely going to want to edit the category entered on the opening page so why the exercise that is making all of us crazy??

Hi Neglus,

This problem has been resolved -- now, when you select a profile item, you can override the category. Let me know if you have any questions on this.
