RE: Recent change at PayPal causes Auctions with ® in the title to not be able to be paid for, by going to PayPal through the Vendio Checkout.
PayPal just made a change that causes customers not to be able to be transferred into PayPal when a character such as a registered trademark symbol is part of the item description.
Some product manufacturers such as Velcro do not allow Ebay auctions with the word Velcro in them. They require their correct trademark name which is "Velcro® Brand" or they will have Ebay shut down the auction, and Ebay threatens suspension if relisted without complying with VERO members requirements. So taking the symbol out of the listings when required is not a good option.
When a customer goes through Vendio Checkout and tries to pay with PayPal and the title includes the ® symbol, PayPal gives this message
"You have entered non-US-ASCII characters such as é. Non-US characters are not currently supported. Please use alternatives like e, then try again."
I contacted PayPal and they escalated the incident to unexpected behavior, but this does not guarantee they will make a change to be able to accept this character, and even if they do make the change, who knows when it will happen.
As I see it, either Vendio programmers need to strip out this character before sending the information to PayPal, or PayPal needs to make a change to accept this character.
Until then, these checkout items from Vendio will fail.
