I need to use a different paypal address for certain auction and can not find a way to change it. I see how I can change paypal preferences globally but I cant seem to figure out how to do it on an individual auction basis - is it even possible?

Unfortunately you cannot change it on a per auction basis -- if you have PayPal enabled, when the listing closes it will draw the email address you have stored in Global preferences as the one to use for PayPal. You may need to process that item directly through PayPal if you can invoice the customer from that email address. When you create the listing for the item, make sure you deselect PayPal so that the other email address doesn't get applied to the item.
