Hell Beth,
There was a specific cost specified for insurance on each item. In order to have insurance based on the cost of the items automatically, remove the specific cost for insurance ("leave blank to use calculated rates from prefs" ).
You can set this in your preferences via the My Account page, under the Global Preferences link.
Regards,
Christopher

I have tried that and it won't let me do it, I am using $2.00 fixed shipping and 100% discount for additional items. I have to put in 1.30 for insurance, and then when someone bought 7 items, the insurance charge was 18.20! It was ORDER 804650758.
Huh!?! And it couldn't be edited. This is embarassing to me and people are getting angry!

Hi andreadaile,
The insurance costs are calculated based on the cost of each item. Insurance is not discounted, as each item has it's own value. You should be able to edit the amount of insurance applied to the order manually, by clicking into the post-sale fulfillment checklist and unchecking steps #1 and #2. You can then edit the checkout information and apply the 'Use the following shipping and handling settings for the entire order:' option, then resend the WBN with the updated info.
Thanks,
Diana

That is the MOST ridiculous thing I've ever heard of. Why do I need to bother with that, can't insurance just be calculated on the total price upon checkout? That is just DUMB!

Hello,
It calculates on the order total when shipping is unified -- meaning if you were to combine the items yourself and apply one shipping to the order as a whole. I will forward your feedback to our development team.

My insurance is still being charged twice although I have global preferences set for optional and left the area blank as suggested above.

Still happening. This order:
ORDER 829678948
Since the order is combining three items as someone buys from my store, why does it charge insurance twice?
Please fix this.

Hello,
I have passed your feedback on to the development team. This happens when a buyer checks out of one of your items and they have won multiple -- the buyers are required to choose shipping for their items, which causes insurance to be added up.

Sonya: They didn't win anything, this was a purchase through the Vendio store. And, it does not happen consistently which tells me you have some kind of little glitch.
