I'm interested in the topic of computer/software rebates.
I have never been given a rebate for computer/software rebates. The latest is a compaq rebate. I did everything they said and never heard from them. Finally I called this rebate center and they tell me I would receieve a letter telling me there was a problem. I did get this letter, it was dated the day of the phone call. It went on to say that they
needed serial numbers, the numbers were on the receipt.
I'm getting scamed for $175.00 from Compaq!

HERON I am going through the same thing with compaq. We got our computer at christmas time and got a letter requesting serial #'s about a week ago. This was the first time I have ever puchased something with a rebate and it will probably be the last. I'm beginning to believe that they put you through all these changes in hopes that you will not want deal with it and give up.

Heron: Go back to your retailer and ask for a duplicate of the original receipt. You may have to explain the situation and show the retailer the rejection letter, but if their advertizing promoted the item with this condition available then they may have an obligation to see that you get the consideration. When you send in the "new" receipt, explain that it is a reissued "original", send it certified-return-receipt, send a copy of the rejection letter keeping that original for your legal records.

Also, send a copy of both to Compaq and your retailer corporate offices to inform them that you had to take the action. Tell both about the rebate center's claim that there was not enough information. If everything is on the level all around you will be making things better for each organization involve. If something is "up", you might be informing Compag [a 2.9 billion dollar company] that they need to check in on their representive organization [rebate center].

I myself have about given up on rebates..I send in every darn thing they ask...and they write back a month later saying "your missing this or that"

Last time was a rebate for Quicken TaxPro...

They said send the UPC on the box..I tore it off and sent it....

They sent back a card saying it was the wrong number!

I ended up sending the whole damn box!

(still haven't seen the rebate!!!)
