We just had a Dutch auction close on eBay, Item (edited). One or more of our customers were contacted by some claiming to be us and requesting paypal payment. Our eBay registered email address is [email protected], not [email protected]
HOW CAN WE STOP THIS FRAUD????????
This is the email we received from our customer:
BRAND NEW PANASONIC 32x IDE CD-ROM 100 DUTCH
I received the following message after the Dutch
auction ended. Is this legitimate? This is a request
for a paypal payment, but the auction page said that
you do not accept paypal. Also, the email address on
the message I received does not match your ebay email
address.

I just got off the phone with PayPal customer support, (what a joke, 47min hold time), and was told that they would start their investigation in about 24hrs. They are a little backed up right now with this apparently very common problem. They could not tell me when or if they would put a stop to this account.
This is exactly why we do not use their service. No real security, no customer service. Not to mention the "Always Free" lie that turned out to be "Always FEES".
It is easy to tell that we are no fans of PayPal, but we let them be until crooks start using their service to steal our money and scam our bidders.
They should be banned, or at least provide some sort of security so that you can only send a request for payment of an auction that actually belongs to you!!!!

Congratulations, and welcome to the club of people who have been screwed royally by Pay(nobody's)Pal.
I am a small seller (eBay feedback rating 350+) who has accepted PayPal since last February (remember, that's when it really WAS "always free". I just received a message from PP informing me that my account was now restricted. The reason: 3 months ago I accepted a PP payment from one of their own "Verified" buyers. It turns out now that there is a report of "suspicious activity" on the credit card account that was used to fund the purchase.
Lemme' see... I sell an item, accept payment through PP's "secured" system, ship the product, and then I have my entire account locked up through no fault of my own. What's wrong with this picture?...
I have no idea how long these bozos will keep my account hostage, but you can believe I've accepted my LAST PayPal transaction. I say we drop these guys like a hot rock.
