I am having the same problems. I have talked with a couple more Amazon sellers and the same with them. Been holding on trying to hang with Amazon, but with all the changes they have made, it is fast becoming a non-profit effort for me.

Amazon is slow right now - but it will pick up.
I have started back offering the international option, and international auctions winners are helping improve sales.
YAHOO is doing amazingly well - it is free - and winners do pay - despite what you read on sellers' boards. Some don't, but I find that is true on all auctions that I sell on - including Ebay.
I believe that like stocks, you need to diversity with auctions - I use Amazon, YAHOO & Ebay - and have different email names for different types of auctions - 1 name on Amazon, 2 on YAHOO & 2 on Ebay.
Of all the auctions tho, I prefer Amazon because because they will rerun the auctions automatically. If I had to pick only one auction to stay with, it would be Amazon! At the end of the month, I subtract the $40 merchant fee and the overage I pay for features, and am satisfied that my time there is well spent.
If I have problems, the staff are more than fair in resolving them.
I find that Listing in Volume is the key!
My recommendation is with the slow times - improve your ads - use HTML language - take great pictures - and List, List, List!!

I use all 3 services - Ebay, Yahoo, and Amazon.
I get 98% of my sales on Ebay, 1.9% on Yahoo, and .1% on Amazon. I haven't had an Amazon sale in a few months now. I took advantage of the Free Listing day to put more up there, but only getting hits so far on like 4 out of 25 items.. very depressing.

What I notice about Amazon is that you get way fewer hits, but Amazon bidders who do hit are usually more serious about buying.
The way I look at selling on Amazon is that I deduct the $40 + excess on features over $20 they give Amazon Pro Sellers and when I feel good about what I am making - I decide that listing on Amazon is a success.
I find that my things sell for more on Amazon than Ebay. This is not true for everyone, I'm sure.
Amazon is an easy place to sell because you can list up to 5,000 things and basically forget about them. They relist over and over by themselves. Only once has there been a problem where some of my auctions did not relist, and because of my watching the seller's discussions boards, I was able to restart my auctions quickly and did not lose anything.
As much as I like YAHOO, and I do well there too, I hate to restart all of my items once a month. I would rather run items for shorter time frames - like 5 days - and have them automatically relist, but that is not how it works.
Everytime I pay Ebay $.50 (at least) for one auction, it hurts me! Especially when I look at amount I spend to run items (with gallery) and amount I make at end of month.
