With over 415,000 auctions (I just checked) using AW counters or full hosting services, they're likely long from dead....
The Message Center, which has been like their Wal-Mart Greeter, may indeed be heading down that slippery slope I often discussed in the Feedback Forum...
I personally don't hope it's a trend....In my view, the less competition there is, the less likely online auctioneers are going to receive good value.
Even though I have been here for a pretty long while and have posted fairly frequently, very few of the regulars know who I am because my methods of posting, like my business in the real world, are low-key...
I'm hoping that the Message Center, like AW, will survive and that those posters who remain here will take the responsibility of maintaining the quality of the community which the long-time posters and the AW moderators have worked so hard to build.

Pat, I agree with you.
I remember when AW announced they were adding fees. All the same moaning and groaning went on.
The same happened when Paypal announced charges.
Everyone has registered credit card info on ebay, why not here? They are not charging you for message center, they just want to make sure you are who you say you are.
If you decide not to stay, then you will be missed, but many many of us will be here when you return.

I really don't see how a credit card proves that I am who I say I am.
I have CC's under three different names (yes, all my legal names at one time or another)... and two different addresses in different locations (both are my homes).
Using cc for identification -- I can be any one of three identities online at any given time --- or all three at once.
There's more behind the cc requirement than proof of identity.
What really would cut down on the riff-raff would be requiring people to use their real names when posting.
