Browsing auctions tonight I found one that accepts a new form of payment. "Payola", the newest and fastest way to pay for an auction. I believe they meant to say PayPal.
I'm still smiling.

Some spell checkers suggest payola for PayPal. Guess this one got through.

If you ever misspell "pensive" check the word the spell checker suggests very carefully....

I would say that I learned this lesson the hard way but .........

I have spell check for my e-mail but where is there a spell checker for other things, like auction descriptions, etc.? Probably something simple, but I just don't know what/where it is. [ edited by sborchert on Sep 1, 2000 10:15 PM ]

A lot of people write out their text and code on other programs with spell checkers and cut and paste.

Some programs that submit auctions have spell checkers. Eposter does and I think Auction Assistant.

Just out of curiosity, I checked out http://www.payola.com. Turns out the domain is owned by Idealab, the company that brought us the worst payment service on the net -- Payme.com.

Considering the extreme incompetence of Payme.com, I wouldn't be suprised if they actually are intending to use this name for some type of auction payment scheme.

Payola! LOL! I grew up in Phila & in the '50s (whoops, how old are ya anyway?!) the local DJs were in a "Payola" scandal for accepting payola to push records!

What a great name for a cheesey company!

tomwiii, I too grew up in the 50's and that's why I got such a laugh out of the Payola payment option. It didn't occur to me that the younger people on this board wouldn't know about the "good ole days" of payola.

LOL! You're right! Of course, I was only an INFANT of tender years & sensibilities then -- yeah, right!

It was a real blow to us kids as radio & American Bandstand & R&R was such a big deal to us! And then our favorite radio DJs got kicked off! I was just rolling & drooling & LOL when I saw the word "Payola" on this board!

tomwiii, For being so young during the payola years your memory is astounding. Do you use Gingko? I still can't believe a business would use the name "Payola" and think it could be credible.

Tom: Sorry about the wrong spelling.

Hyski-O-Roonie-McVouty-O-Zoot

I remember Joe Niagra too, but my wanton youth was more in the early 1960's.

Wasn't the payola scandal more about The $64,000 Question and other quiz shows?

Funny thing about Ginko! I went to Syracuse U & all my room-mates were Stumpies! Now you're probably wondering: "What is a Stumpy?" That's what we called SUNY College of Forrestry students!

Anyhoo, ya know one of the distinguishing features of the Ginko pod? As it ripens off the tree, it has a distinctive odour! Of poop! (a test question in a mandatory course called Silvology (sic)!) So, I've let my memory dissolve as I listen to Sgt Pepper's & can't quite figure out why my bell-bottoms don't fit -- rather than ingest that tree!

Tom's little trivia tidbit!

Tom, Thanks for the Gingko trivia. I think.
I can never remember to take it anyway so guess I'll just throw it out.
