Some will clap, and some will boo. PayPal's changed their logos and addeds some links. You should log on to your account and look around. It clearly says the first two logos are acceptable on eBay.

The link associated with the last image impressed me, but some aren't going to like it. Put me in the clapping section.

Just the first two are acceptable? Bummer, I like the last one too.

Maybe PayPal can make it smaller to compensate us ebayers.

I've not checked the PayPal site this morning. But unless eBay has changed their requirements for graphic link advertising in listings, all of those are way too big. 88 X 33 is the max pixel size (the first two new PayPal logos are 250 pixels in length). Here's eBay's policy:

****
eBay recognizes that many sellers use 3rd party services to help perform essential functions related to their listing and that there are legitimate reasons for identifying such companies in listings. For example, some companies offer picture hosting, counters, listing software and payment facilitation services. In exchange for providing their service, some third party services require or request that they receive "credit" or recognition for their service within the eBay listing. We will allow such credit within the following guidelines.

eBay will permit listings that contain a small, discrete identification or "credit" to third parties that provide services or products directly connected with the particular listing. The credit may only contain text (HTML font size 3) OR a logo (88x33 pixels) identifying or crediting the company offering the product or service. It may not contain promotional material or other information about the company.

If credit text is used:
The font size may be no greater than the example below (HTML font size 3) and may contain no more than 10 words.
It may contain clickable text links (which otherwise comply with eBay policies).
It may only contain information about the company or the service they provide, such as: "provided by Company X" or "I accept payment through Company Y."
Example of a text credit permitted within an item page:

"This image was provided courtesy of Company A"

If a logo or icon is used:
The logo size may be no greater than 88x33 pixels (see examples below)
It may link only to the third party company's web site
It may NOT provide promotional statements or information - it may simply be an identifier of the company/affiliation
Example of a logo credit permitted within an item page:

Listings that do not meet eBay's policy on advertisements and credits may be ended. The continued practice of placing advertisements in a listing may result in suspension from eBay.

*******

I'm off to check out PayPal....

I know, I even checked to see if eBay's policy was different. It hadn't changed, that's why I was surprised to see PayPal listing those logos as acceptable on all auctions including eBay. Either eBay changed their policy, PayPal is in error, or some behind the scene dialog has made an allowance. I'll be curious which of those 3 scenarios is correct.

Yup- PayPal does say the 50 X 250 one is compliant. There's a disconnect somewhere....

I guess they can squeeze the 250 out of it by claiming it's really logos for MasterCard, Visa, and PayPal (3 X 88 = 264 max length). But that's a stretch (no pun intended) and the other dimension is still off.

It's a mystery....

I think the new verification process kinda sucks since I have used paypal for a long while and they tellme I am not verified. How can this be when I have deposted money into my bank account before and they should know the money gets there. DUH!
I AM SCI-FI.

Am I the only one who has browsed through auctions at eBay and noticed that A LOT of sellers use logos that eBay supposedly doesn't accept? Most notably, the larger PayPal logos! My first reaction to this was "HEY!!! Did I misunderstand the policy?" If they inforce this policy so stringently, then how come some sellers ARE using the larger logos? Regretably, I don't have a link to provide you with, to back up my gripe (I don't want to point fingers any way). If a seller can get away with it, more power to 'em. I, on the other hand, wouldn't have that kind of luck.

Shellsputer..you got to report the offending logos in order for ebay to enforce the rule. Ebay doesn't go looking for violations

Amy - Aaahhhhhhh! I thought there were actual people that work for eBay who actually look for these things!

Nah, no reporting here. To each his own. I would feel like a 12 year old whining, "How come Suzy can stay up late, but I can't?" I'll just try to follow the rules with my own listings.

I have to admit though, I DID feel a twinge of jealousy at the sight of the "large logo."

The use of logos larger than allowed by eBay, for PayPal or other purposes,is widely done by sellers with or without their understanding it is against the rules.

Like many things I think it has to be reported before eBay takes any action. I expect it could lead to a warning and/or all listings cancelled followed by account suspension if the activity continued.

PayPal is clearly aware of eBay restrictions as demonstrated by even the old logos being classified as "approved for eBay" and non-approved.

They are also in competition for the hearts, minds and wallets of the customers with Billpoint.

While I like the inclusion of the Visa/MC names and the concept of a guarantee, if not that exact jpg, I hope they have not put our listings at risk by offering the use of the logos without specific high level approval from eBay.

I seem to be able to cause myself more than enough problems and don't want to be caught in the cross fire of two large corporations. Even "friendly fire" can still wound or kill you.

PayPal - More information please.

This sounds like a job for....PaypalDamon.

Are these logos REALLY within the eBay guidelines? If I use them and my auctions get yanked, will Paypal reimburse me for my lost fees (and I use a lot of featured auctions...)

My guess is that if your auctions get reported and pulled, Paypal will say, "Sorry, we thought they were OK."

I think I'll pass for now.

Good point about the Powerseller logo. I think it could be argued that this is another monopolistic practice by eBay.

I know the 2 logos that PayPal says are acceptable on eBay go against the terms as eBay has them spelled out. Either PayPal has made a laughable mistake OR there's been some behind the scenes legal manuvering.

I wish they'd stop giving Damon time off.

Good catch, magazine_guy! They're not compliant with ebay.

I was forced to (*choke) upgrade my account this morning because I wanted the links on my new business webpage. I also put the verified one on there and it looks really nice. I just wish they'd make it compliant with ebay standards..

Damon! It's Sunday, get out of the bed and answer us! *G*

All one has to do is reduce the logo in your auction ads by putting something like this

<img src=your site where you keep your pictures width= and # height=and number">

<img src="http://members.tripod.com/~frenchiestreasures/graphic/paypal.jpg" width=150 height=150">

That's all you have to do and it will be legal.

I have been in a panic here with these new paypal logos. I was adding the logo to each auction individually, choosing the small, compliant with eBay logo. I then signed on for paypal's automatic add on feature, chosing the same small logo. Much to my surprise....the last batch of auctions I listed showed up with that HUGE logo! Panic set in. I cannot change them! Have spent almost two hours " on hold " trying to get someone in customer service. I followed the instructions for changing logo preference, but can't get it changed. Has anyone has this problem? What can I do?

I have the paypal small logos saved on my webserver, so if anyone needs them until this can be figured out, you are more than welcome to copy them. Here are the two links, I wasn't sure I could actually post the pictures here.

I know that everyone including me certainly doesn't need our auctions to be ended just because that logo is to big for ebay.

If? If ebay has a problem? It already looks like a problem to me. Ebays rules are specific as to the size, I can't figure out how these new banners manage to fall under their rules. And what irritates me further, I can't change the banners to a smaller one even if I want to, when I try I get that only 2 are available - these verified big things. I personally don't care who has big banners or not, makes no difference to me. However, it is does make a difference to ebay and the auction nitpickers who want every one shut down for some violation or another. I am not going to be a happy camper if one of mine get shut down because of this.

PayPaldamon:

I'm suspecting there is some miscommunication here, either between your logo guys and eBay, or between you and your logo guys.

Can you clarify how it is that these logos are in compliance? Did eBay change their rules (and not yet change the language in site- not likely)? Or did PayPal work out a special arrangement with eBay- and if so, can we get some documentation of that arrangement?

I cannot imagine any scenario in which eBay would allow PayPal special consideration, given the lengths eBay went to to limit PayPal logo credits a few months ago. Unless eBay is buying X.com (not likely).

So what's the deal?

Anybody get confirmation from eBay that these logos are OK?

HI Magazine Guy,

I checked with Product and they apparently checked with Ebay. We have not heard from them stating a negative and everything appears to be ok. If Ebay had an issue with a logo, they will contact us to meet their specifications.

"So what's the deal?"

I'm not worried about using the logos, but I am curious. How, Why, When, did PayPal and eBay come to an understanding? For some reason I don't expect to ever hear the whole story, but I've got this suspicion that its a good one.

I feel really dumb! I did not save Ebay's answer to my question...
I wrote to Ebay, enclosing a GIF of the SMALLER, yellow PayPal old logo, and asking them to let me know if I could still use it, as it was SMALLER than the NEW X.com logos. They answered yesterday to:

1) not address my question about OLD, smaller logo

2) Refer me back to the Paypal Logo site....So, it would appear that those logos are OK with them? or was THAT A TRICK QUESTION....! I feel as if I am doing 36 MPH in a 35 zone, and am about to get caught in a "speed trap"...

" checked with Product and they apparently checked with Ebay. We have not heard from them stating a negative and everything appears to be ok. If Ebay had an issue with a logo, they will contact us to meet their specifications."

ROFL!! So all paypal did was email ebay asking if the new logos are ok and then assumes that as long as paypal has not received a response from ebay they must be ok.

So what did this email say? Did it say

"Hi ebay, we here at paypal have some new logos for our cutomers to use on their listings with you. Are they compliant with your rules? As long as we don't hear from you we will assume they are ok."

I can only repeat..ROFL!!!

I think I will pass on the new logos until I see something in writing from ebay that says the logos are ok...or I see that ebay has changed it's rules.

Shosh I think the question needs to be...send ebay a copy of the NEW logos and ask if they are compliant. Without the rep seeing the new logos it is possible the rep misunderstood your question
