Was just wondering if I should upgrade to Business Premier Acct so I can accept CC's.
But I have this nagging question about the 1.8% incoming fees. Does this apply to ALL incoming payments (auction as I take now with no fee plus CC payments) or just for the CC incoming payments. Why would I pay them 1.8% for incoming payments from auctions when I don't now.
Otherwise it looks great as I could use the CC payment service for other business activities besides auctions.
ANY OTHER DRAWBACKS YOU HAVE RUN INTO with an upgrade of ACCTS or is it all good?

I upgraded due to the fact that X.com is planning to offer debit cards on Business accounts in the future. I've had no problems with my account since the upgrade, and just found out another bonus--when you make payments out of a "Premier" account with funds in the account, you get a 1% refund!

I upgraded my wife's account to business so she could accept credit card payments from her web site. I wish I hadn't- and may try to change back.
PayPal isn't up to speed on the whole Web Accept thing, and in my view it's not a reasonable alternative to traditional merchant accounts for most web sites. It's inflexible, not compatible with shopping carts, and (worst of all) requires your buyers to sign up for a PayPal account, complete with giving mother's maiden name and pet's name (or some other security question) in order for them to pay for your item. I think many potential buyers will be put off by that.
I called PayPal to complain about this. They listened patiently, but that's all.
What works for online auctions won't work for web sites, in my view. Back to the drawing board, PayPal.

I don't see any reason to upgrade the Paypal account either. Believe it or not, there are people out there in cyberspace who have never heard of Paypal or auctions and click off in lightening speed when they find out they have to sign up for a Paypal account to use a credit card.
Until it supports carts and doesn't make people sign up for an account, a free account for auctions works fine.

i just recently upgraded my paypal account just so that i could accept credit cards on my site. i agree that the hassle the customer has to go through is unreasonable, but what other alternatives are there for accepting credit cards on the web, then?

I was told by a PayPal (on their toll-free phone number) that a person can have two accounts. One for personal and one for business.
I had a personal PP account, upgraded it to business added my business bank account with my personal bank account that was filed with PP.
When I upgraded from personal to business, I had the understanding a person can have only one account with PayPal.
What a mistake! My personal bank account number (even though I have removed it) is "locked" with the PP business account. They will upgrade their system some-day to get rid of this problem but in the meantime!

I upgraded to Premier this morning and it said only one account. They said they would cancel the other account if I tried to reregister under another email.
Their rate is 1.9% for all payments received by a credit card. Of course, you won't know if the person sent a check or paid by credit card, so you may as well consider it 1.9% for all transactions that come in to your account. You, however, can transfer money freely.

I upgraded to a Business account because my business is incorporated. My lawyer and my accountant told me that using PayPal only as a personal account (operating as an individual and not a corporation, in other words) could destroy the limitations on liability that incorporation offers. If I were still a sole proprietorship, I don't know if I would upgrade to a Business account until they got their act together with non-auction CC payments.

I upgraded about 1 onth ago. LOVE IT..!!!
Just the feature of automatic requesting money has taken a lot of work.
When I compare this to Billpoint the winner is Paypal...

I upgraded a month ago, primarily to use the "Web Accept" feature on my various little web stores-
I've only gotten about 1/8th of the merchandise set up with it so far, but I'm seeing about double my weekly sales over the previous month, and people are buying more expensive items.
I agonized over upgrading and verifying for over a month- followed all the threads about the subject here on AW. Finally decided to take the plunge-

Not to worry about signing up for there business service at paypal.
here is the deal my brother signed up for paypal and was useing it free more people were paying with it and he started getting up to $1,500 in paypal payment weekly and suddenly one day he notice paypal was chargeing him a small fee for each sale not a lot but a fee he writes and asked them what was up they wrote back and said due to the level of activity in his account in order for him to continue takeing paypal payments with problems his account was upgraded to there business service that charges a small fee for all transaction.
his level of sales $xxxx in a 15 day period has exceed there limits for a there free service.
I dont know just what paypals limit are set at but he went over what they concider a fair limit for there free service, and they upgraded him.
the amount they charge averages out to about .12 to .14 cents per sale which for this privilage to take CC payment this easily he conciders fair.
