The current high bidder on one of my items has a 0 feedback and I just thought I would check to see how long ago they registered with eBay. It shows that they just signed up on August 31 and then changed their ID on September 1.

I thought you had to wait 30 days before changing your ID. I know when I first registered a little over a year ago, I used my email address as my ID. It didn't take me long to find out that it took too long to enter that all the time. I tried to change my ID to a nickname, but eBay wouldn't let me until 30 had elapsed.

I'm just curious how this person could change his ID the next day after first signing up with eBay.

When signing up now ebay automatically gives you your email address as your screen name. After you have gone through verification ebay gives you a screen that says your ebay screen name is **********. Down just a little further it gives a place for you to click and change it to something else you might prefer. That I bet is something that this person did (the next day) as they probably didnt want the email address to be their screen name.

Maybe that option was there when I signed up too. I know I was in a big hurry because I had found a music CD I had been trying to find for years and wanted to get a bid in. Anyway, I was stuck with using my email address as my ID for a month before I could change it.

I just changed my USERID from my email address to what you see here - and it told me that I could change it again; but only after 30 days has passed and my "eyeshades" were gone. A bit of paranoia on my part but I feared much of my SPAM I was receiving was because of my email address being used. Besides using www.brightmail.com now, to combat SPAM, I should notice somewhat of a difference.... Oh, check out that brightmail thingy - it's all free...

Just a question along these lines. I am using my email address as my ID. I recently began selling after buying exclusively for almost a year. I've worked hard to build up to my 55 feedbacks and don't want to lose those by changing my ID. Can I change the ID and keep my feedbacks?

Yes, the feedbacks go right along with your new username.

So I get to keep the feedback but have to have the pair of shades by my name for 30 days.

Something to think about.
