Many WebTv'rs are unable to SELL or SEARCH or access SAFEHARBOR currently.

I noticed the problem immediately after an upgrade to the WebTV email system.

One individual at the moderated WebTV newsgroup (located at news:webtv.users) claims that if he turns on WebTV and goes DIRECTLY to eBay, that he has no problems.

Didn't work for me.

There is NO discussion of this in the news:alt.discuss.forsale.eBay newsgroup (which is accessible only to WebTV'rs.)

Several people have mentioned that they are upgrading to puters immediately, but I wanna wait until there is a USER-FRIENDLY Linux OS.

Bill Gates is scoring his next billion THIS WEEK, lol, hurraH for this Pied Piper of Seattle -- way to g0, Bill!

But I, myself, as a matter of honor, will resist this coersive attempt of yours to make me buy a computer with a Microsoft Operating System.

IMO, the only thing worse than WebTV Customer "Service" is the Microsoft R&D Department.

Anyway --- if you guys notice that you have NO or FEW bids from people with WebTV, I suspect that due to the inability of WebTV to access EBAY SEARCH, that the only items being bid on are via browsing categories, LOL.

webtv is a consumer product with way too many limitations. It reminds me of the dedicated word processors that many gullible folks back when...myself too

The cost of a real computer is so cheap that I cannot imagine anyone willing to put up with such a piece of junk.

chococaKe: thanks for the uPdate, that is real g00d to hear that others are also awaiting the LINUX OS for the general public.

ya know, that AOL/TimeWarner megamerger with the AOL TV, it is soooooo ludicrous, the cable tv companies are alarmed by the drop in viewership as more & more people come online, so are the tv advertisers alarmed.

But see -- nobody *wants* Interactive Teevee ====>> YAWN!

And I refuse to buy a computer with a Microsoft OS.

As far as I'm concerned, the Pied Pipers of Seattle will have NO influence, much less control over my purchases.

Gates bought WebTV and ALL innovations STOPPED - even journalists agree with the WebTV'rs that King Gates wanted everyone to get sooooooooo frustrated and disgusted with WebTV that they bought a computer -- ANY computer, as ol' King Gates knew full well that each purchase represented another Microsoft OS sold.

I ain't buying...

abingdon: thanks, but i wouldn't be able to understand the book. i just want a puter that has the LINUX OS, that is an operating system made with the general public in mind.

geeesH!

i wonder HOW many people out there feel similarly to a number of WebTV Users, that we wanna have a LINUX OS, but it's gotta be USER FRIENDLY for the tech-illiterati.

I'm quite busy today, but when I have time, I'm gonna check out how WebTV accesses SELL, SEARCH, SAFEHARBOR at eBay -- when WebTV is using either the Anonymizer and/or Surfola.

Here's what I said in another post, so if you have WebTV, ya might wanna see if there's any improvement using another browser.... i dunno!!

=====> maybe I will be able to access SELL on eBay by using http://www.anonymizer.com

Also, there is a place called http://www.surfola.com and it is sposed to be totally WebTV accessible, and when surfing through Surfola, one is sposed to be able to access more sites, 'cuz the SURFOLA BROWSER is accessing the sites, NOT the miserable microsoft stoooooopid WebTV browser.

HI,
I own a Webtv. So far the only problems I have had was the other night when i tried to sell something. When i went to sell page from the home page it would reset my box. The only way i was able to put anything up for sell was to use the link at the beginning of each catergory. We also can't use the change category. I tried that and it reset my box. Had to go to the library to do that.
I haven't had any problems using the search or looking at items. I'm not sure if it's an Ebay thing or WebTV thing. Who knows but if Ebay keeps updating their site they are going to lose quite a few people due to the fact that us Webtv'ers won't be able to access it.

Hi minon9 - do you have a CLASSIC, or a WebTV Plus?

In the moderated newsgroup, different posters are reporting different problems...

Hi radh,
I have a Phillips Magnavox classic. I've had for probably a year and a half or so. I just got the new email and home page changes about a week ago.

Actually, if you are looking for something that is the equivalent of WebTV, there is a Linux alternative -- the i-opener. It's a "netpliance" with an OS based on Linux and an extremely user-friendly interface.

Older versions can hacked to make them full-fledged Linux machines, but, of course, you lose the user-friendly interface.

Unfortunately, the recent venture capital flight has also affected Linux start-ups, so it may be quite a while before we see a truly user-friendly full version of a Linux OS.

Also a WebTV'er. Using Smart Search resets my unit, but the OLD SEARCH page works fine.
