I am high bidder at 25 dollars on a auction and my maxium is 40 dollars. If I put another bid in at 50 dollars because I think I may be outbid. Will the high bid go to over 40 dollars? Or not? Since I am bidding against myself. If not, what would the bid go to?Thanks for all your help.

Your bid will stay the same and your maximum bid in the My Ebay screen will go to $50.00. You can't bid against yourself, all your doing in this case is adding some insurance to your proxy.

Not micheneraddict on ebay.

Actually, there are two ways re-bidding on an item will change the current price. One is if it is a reserve auction and your second bid hits the reserve price, in which case it will jump to the reserve.
The second is if your inital bid was less than the full increment over the previous bid. In other words if your high was $5.10 and the back-up bidder had bid $5.00, and you re-bid $10.00, it would jump to $5.25 (the regular increment for $5.00 being .25). Hope this makes sense.
