I want to list my web site with a search engine,is there one that you can use that sends the info to all at once.
As to meta tags can you add more to your web site as you go,as you think of more key words.Or once registered with a search engine can you only use the key words you had set up origionally.

I am NO expert on this AT ALL; however, let me mention that there have been LOTS of articles I've skimmed which focus on "How to get listed at Yahoo", and ALLA advice seems to conclude, that one should use the PAY SERVICE because then your site will be checked over and the determination made within a few weeks, and that otherwise it is very hard to get into Yahoo Search.
I advise you to try the google search engine, and also Dell's super-fast search engine, and for the search string, try: "search engine submission"

imabrit-to get the best results, the only way is to pay. Been going thru this for the past couple months.
nothings really free, first there was the domain, then the software to create it, now the search engines. Its not as expensive as the first two, but still paying will get you the best exposure.

The answer to your question on meta tags is that it varies by search engine. Some will reindex regularly, and your tags will be updated. Others don't.
A good solution to this (and a good idea in general) is to resubmit your site about once a month. (Though it's not a good idea to do it much more often than this, as some give you a lower rating if you submit too often.)
One thing to keep in mind with search engines is that these days most take 4-6 weeks to reindex (with the notable exception of Altavista and the "Fast" search engine mentioned above at http://www.alltheweb.com.)
An easy way to do submissions to the engines with a web-based submission service. There are many places that charge a lot of money for this type of service and sumbit your site to thousands of places, but you really don't need to bother. There are free services (Eboz http://www.eboz.com is my favorite) that submits to the 60 top search engines. The rest are so small, it's probably not worth the bother.
If you are going to put some money into it, you would be much better off with Yahoo's pay submission service, as described by others. However, this is only available for a limited number of categories on Yahoo.
The best source of information on search engines is http://www.searchenginewatch.com. They have some great information for free, but for the really good stuff, you gotta pay, of course...

The answer to your question is that there are dozens of shareware programs that list you on the top 100, 200, 500, 1000 search engines and even higher claims. Simply go to http://www.download.com and look for some. They won't be hard to find.
Now, as a web page designer, I offer my clients to be hand-listed with the Top 10 or the Top 100 search engines. We hand-list instead of using a URL submission program is because these programs are incapable of correct submissions on many search engines.
For instance, let's say that you are a wheat farmer. The URL submission program can certainly list you as a Farmer, but will not always be able to get you further defined as a Wheat Farmer. Since search engines often change their submission format, there is no way to keep up with all of them.
Then, the amount of search engines. Search engines have the same problem as competitors to eBay do: there's only the Big Fish and the rest struggle to survive. So a submission to the "Top 10" search engines is really overkill! (I dare you to go look at 100 search engines. Most will end up being some teenage kid's web page and his tinker-toy "practice" search engine. Wanna list there too?)
When our customers want to submit a Top 100 search engine deal, we try to make 20 of them relevant to thier business; that is, a Farmer would be listed with 20 Farm-related database search engines. With the Top 10 submissions, we submit to 4 business related ones. More than the Top 6 is a joke.
My suggestion: go hand submit to the Top 10 search engines and be done with it.
* WARNING * WARNING * WARNING *
Submitting your URL to any search engine means tons of SPAM and Junk Mail! SPAMMERS routinely harvest business URLS and personal URLS from search engines! You may as well go and list with these SPAMMERS first before you list your URL on a search engine!

Thanks all of you have been helpfull too,I think I put my meta tags on the wrong line I will have to correct those first.

You do not need to pay, and you do not need to resubmit monthly.
Go to http://www.searchenginewatch.com and they will tell you ALL about how to do it, and how to design your web pages for the best results.
The major trick is to have "added value" content, giving away your knowledge to attract traffic, and not a lot of sales spiel.
Word of warning on Yahoo ... you have about 10 seconds to impress the reviewer, so make sure your front page is VERY VERY good, loads fast, and makes it VERY clear what kinds of PRICELESS information is behind each link. Think of it as a billboard, and the reviewer is zooming past at 60MPH ... you want to make them hit the brakes and say "WOW".
Don't submit to YAHOO until you know you have perfected your site and have lots of good stuff.

tips on how to list website for free on spiders and directorys.
frist place to check out is ssimple system they offer a whole system for daily weekly and monthly web sight promotion the free service will use a few hours of time to get you listed on most free spiders and directorys.
dont pay bigest waist in all honesty there isnt thousand of web spider search engines out there. you need to be listed on the few major spiders all the rest use these spiders for there data bases.
pretty much forget getting list on yahoo inless your sight get thusands of hit weekly.
second place to get more listing free is hotbox. and mamma.com .
yes you can change your meta tags any time you like and add or subtract from your pages any time the spiders come and check your site for chages and up date every two weeks to a month.
many say you should resumbit your web page monthly but I find once your listed it there for ever I have one site I put togeather in 94 I registeered with like 50 search engines free this site is still list to this day with out resubmiting it.
because there is so many web sites today and it is so simple to get listed search engines are not as effective as they would like you to think any long getting in the top 20 listing is nearly imposible.
best way to advertize you web page today is in your signature file that goes in all your email on your auctions news papers and so on.
I dont recommend investing $200 or more to a company to do this for you I been here done it its disappointing to find it take two weeks to a month for your site to get listed and may only get you 4 hits in a year.
dont correct all the typos in your meta if they are your typos others make these typos too keep a few bad spelt words and add the correct spelling to more sites are found by search typos then you can imgine
I have been in to web site design and programing now on 6 years your best advertizeing for it is you tell everyone about your sight.
why pay a stranger $200 to $400 a year who will not do nothing but put you on search bots. when it can be done for free a daily advertizeing campain works best get a daily weekly and monthly routine and stick with it.
just like you have for your online auction sales.

Well it depends on how much effort your willing or the time to put into all that.
We are paying $290. (year) and they are doing 16 doorway pages, resubmit every 2 weeks to a month,to make changes as we go along, position monitioring....
My site is listed in the top 10 in most of the search engines in the category I wanted. I used a free submit program & didn't pay a dime.
As information, not all the search engines rely or even use the META tags.
You may have already considered this, but make your "title" different on each page. Mine are & they often get picked up by spiders & I have several listings on the same search engine.
Another place you can use is SimpleSubmit. I've included a link to it

I agree with those who say you don't need to pay to get your site listed. I maintain my company's web site and we've never paid for a listing but our site always comes up in a search. But we're a pretty well-known company, which probably makes some difference.
My personal site was indexed by Dogpile without me even submitting it -- as a matter of fact, it only had four words on it at the time and I didn't intend for anyone to see it. When it's ready (e.g. actually has some useful information on it) I'll go around to other search sites and sumbit it manually.
