-this is NOT a joke-
I listed a camper/travel trailer on eBay.
In the description I stated the winning bidder is responsible for transporting it from my home.
A "purple star" (having all positive feedback) eMailed me and asked for my zip code to get an idea of the shipping cost.
I had 7 pic's! clearly it was not a little model!!!
He/she appears to be sincere. I'm I missing something? Should I bother to reply -is this a prank?
Is anyone so seasoned on eBay to earn a purple star that DUMB?!!

Maybe he/she is planning on hiring a company to transport the trailer to her.

Certainly, reply to the email. Politely remind them that your TOS states that the buyer must *pick up* the trailer themselves.
They probably aren't "dumb"--it's just that some bidders either think that the seller's TOS couldn't possibly apply to *them*, , and others see no harm in trying for a change in TOS. Or, it just might be a collector of miniatures who just didn't take a real look at your auction.
In any case, be polite in your reply--it never hurts.

There's nothing at all unusual about that. He didn't intend for it to go in the mail. Zipcodes are used for many things including the computing of auto and boat or related transport. All truck frieght is figured using zipcodes.
What are you? Stupid - Drunk - or from Mars??

So, it's ok for the originator of the thread to ask if her potential bidder is Stupid Drunk or from Mars....but not OK for KRS to ask same.
Anyway, they prolly want the zip so that they can find out the cost of having it picked up. (as krs said) Simple

Simple yes, but no reason to be insulting even if the perception is that the originator was being insulting.

The originator of the post was being general in just saying a bidder. The resulting comment from krs as very rude and attacked a person who had put their name to this thread. That is totally uncecessary and unprofessional. Moderator?? Where are you? To those that answered the question with some dignity, I must agree that the zip code may be needed for dead end or end of the load transporting for a trucking company going in that direction. Good luck!

If from Mars I think those transportation costs will be really prohibitive, not a likely sale at all.

krs,
Even though the originator is wondering about the i.q., sobriety and planetary origin of their buyer, she/he did not identify the buyer.
Your remark requesting the same information specifically from this AW member could be construed as a direct insult by some, at the very least it is close to the line.
Please do not continue to post in that vein.

OK: "stupid" has been thrown away: not dignified enough..."Mars" is judged to be too far...
That leaves "drunk"...That's it! he/she cannot drive, because of a suspended license?...
Of course, all of this is tongue-in-cheek..
Mark, please make us a "tongue-in-cheek" smiley..

who know what the buyer want the zip for they ask for it they won it give them the zip my guess is they may put a ad in paper to look for some one diveing there way to hire to transport this or want to find a way to ship on freight train might be a reasnable rate for this.
maybe they went to the PO web sight and discovered free priortiy boxes for this item.
and calulate the shipping rate at a few thousand dollars hmmmm.
maybe they are willing to pay you to send this one peice at a time. and pay for your time to take it apart.
maybe they know they can pay to have this attached to the back of a greyhound bus heading there way.
maybe they are sure its not larger then most carry on luggage for the space shuttle.
I cant say how other should sell items on ebay but if it was my camper I would have stated local buyer only this item must be traported to large to ship by mail.
if some one not local wrote and asked if they could bid they can arrange transport for it I might say fine and tell them they have 30 days to provide the transport and then there money would be refunded and sales canceled or some such arrangement.
any way they transport this you home address and zip code will be need by them not only to get rate but to arrange pick up of the camper.

You guys who responded (minus one...) are a great bunch! Thank you.
To clarify something:
I worded this post wrong when I typed I was asked for my zip for shipping charges...
I should have worded it right: "postage" -not- "shipping" - that's what threw me off! So, NO I'm not drunk, stupid, or from Mars! But I guess I really tore up my point, 'sorry about that!
I read this post for the first time since I wrote it just a few minutes ago and without re-reading what I wrote first, I thought, WOW!- what are they talking about?! I knew that!
My bad...
So to clear the record, I should have typed postage - not shipping. Now do you see why I reacted like that??
I never responded to him and the auction is over. <wiping my forehead...>
No big deal. If he wrote "shipping" yeah, I'd have a clue, but "postage"??? argh!!
Thanks for your input You guys!
(except the one who insists on being a poopyhead...)
You know who you are!!!
btw- lol! Shoshanah!!!
Did I type that out loud???
I edited to correct my typos - going to bed now. Good night!
