When my auctions don't get a bid, I have been relisting, and trying to lower the price as much as I can and still see a profit, change the wording a bit and list in another catagory. Even let the item rest a bit between lsitings. What do you do and how is your luck at a sale when doing this?

Every thing you've mentioned has worked for me, especially 'resting' between auctions. Sometimes it is just the wrong season to sell something and you have to wait for a better time.
My sell rate for a relist is about 66%, the rest gets sent to a thrift shop or library.
Sometimes I've raised the price on something relisted and it sells.

Relist at 0.50/1.00 and 1.50 and will get a number of bids..usually around what I wanted. The rest goes into my online store to the trash or to charity. I think my resell rate is maybe 50-65%.

just had to laugh here... i had item that i relisted for a total of 3 or 4 offerings... no sale.. stuck it in garage sale 6 months later for 2.00 and the lady buying it was ebayer.
I checked her auctions and it went for 25.00 or 30.00 bucks on her listing.. sometimes it is timing or the other person. she also had a booth at antique shop and lots of items up from same time period. Grouping things definately is a plus.

It depends, maybe 50%. I find that many items will move if I put them on Yahoo where I can relist slow movers automatically.
Timing is everything. I often get a bid within hours of relisting and it always surprises me.

About 50%. I'm still learning about the books I sell, and I bought some white elephants that look to be headed for the library fund raiser.

I just relisted my first 2 items. The first I lowered the starting price by half, within 2 hours the bids had gone above my other beginning price, still has 3 days to go. The other got bids before but did not reach reserve, this time no reserve, no bids yet. We'll see.

Yessssss
Timeing is everything for sure the key is this is the buyer here this week while its listed I find my self in this delema all the time when Im faced with relisting for a price.
I only sell limited on ebay my sell rate isnt the best since I have no feed back yet but I only sell one Type of item in one category there right now pretty much.
3 of 8 items best sell frist time.
second time I always list twice I usually list 7 to 10 days wait 10 days list it again second list of the five remaining 2 will sell then I either send it to yahoo to list a month or let it rest a month list again.
my listings on yahoo since they are free I work differently since for sure timeing is everything and most all areas are saturated there cant be a buyer for all items at the same time I tend to leave it listed till the buyer comes by and snags it.
I am finding the best rotation for me is two weeks on ebay no sale send it for 3 week to yahoo if no sale make it disapear off auction for a month and try again.
I am starting a collection of item I have rotated a few times that have no bids or takers im gona put them aside and when I have enough of these item I will run $2 start bid on yahoo with them see where it goes I have a small batch I am working with on yahoo right now older inventory meet my buy price get free shipping .
also I am testing lots or grouping of some things on ebay that fit in the same catagory
this seems to sell well too.
another thing I am working on for smaller and low shiping rate items win three in a week and get free shipping.
if you try these free or discount shipping deals make sure you word you ad right I goofed on a discount offer on ebay last week didnt word my offer right I was selling set and lots of records I found shipping on my set of 12 78s turned out to be high cost $14 to ship so my deal was win 2 or more of my record sets in one week I will ship the albums of 78s for $9 well I had three sets of these up one buyer bid on 2 sets of these 78s sets ouchie.not what I ment or what I wanted to mean at all but I will hold up to my promise it would have been cheaper for me two have said win one get the other free you pay the feight on both $28 hahaha .
even though I dont sell every thing on ebay I use yahoo mainly I can say if I listed all on ebay I would sell all nearly all my inventory in about two months.
I dont think I could keep up the supply and still hold a full time job. I can understand the seller burnout rate on ebay for people trying to do this full time.

Actually, my ratio of re-lists is pretty high...most of mine have sold the second time around. Sometimes I change the category (some items fit well in two or more categories); sometimes, I lower the price. So far, I've been pretty lucky with my re-lists. I do agree with others...on eBay as in many other aspects of life, TIMING is the critical element. Good luck...
