I posted this on the Yahoo message board also but I know some don't go there. I made banner for myself and I am posting it here f or the few paydirect sellers in ebay. Anyone wants to use it feel free to, but do NOT link directly to the image because it will be gone in a few days and you will get a big red X instead where you place the banner. To download to your computer just right click and save then put it where ever you want.
Okay here is a banner it should be in all the rules of ebay. They don't give you a lot of room to work . . . I didn't animate it like I did the one for on Yahoo because I don't know how many loops etc... they allow on Ebay and the time wrap but I know they regulate it. I don't want to give them any reason hassle anyone. Have a good evening

Question. The banner is fine, I think, but isn't linking to Paydirect from your auctions a violation of the Ebay user agreement?
When you link to Paydirect you are linking to a site that indirectly or directly leads to the yahoo auction site.
I would love to use a Paydirect banner but don't want my auctions closed.

Yes, at this time it would be a violation on ebay what most sellers like myself are doing is telling people they take Paydirect and then placing the link to paydirect in their congrads letters to the winnner (not on Ebay). The banner is just a visual sign that the seller takes pay direct which also takes visa and master card. Notice I didn't put Yahoo on the banner I did that for a reason. Even though it wouldn't be in direct violation it would be kind of throwing it in ebay's face. Something we don't really want to do. That would be bad business. It is a marketing tool. Just by using the paydirect banner in ebay you will not have your auctions closed. The banner does not come with a link that you would have to put in yourself. So, unless you would put the html in yourself their is no link to yahoo or its auctions. The banner its is just a picture. I know it can get confusing . Anyway I hope I explained that okay I have a killer headache and am not sure if I am being clear enough to be understood. I hope so.

I see what you mean. I thought that you were using the graphic to link to Paydirect. I just wanted to clear that up so people wouldn't unknowingly cause problems for themselves.

May I use your banner Tracyg?
I am also quite new and don't know how to put a link in my email to the successful bidder. Paypal & Bidpay do it automatically.
Can you give link to put in email please?
Thank you.

Yes you are more then welcome to use the banner that is why I put it up here. Please do use it we are all in this together.
I can't put the link here because it is against the message boards rules, but I can send you the url address that you can paste in your e-mails if you don't already have it. My e-mail address if this would be helpful to you is [email protected] just drop a line if it would.
As far as making it an automatic link all e-mails work a little different but most do that automatic if they see a Url. AOL e-mail doesn't though.

I have sent an email to SafeHarbor asking for clarification on the issue of placing a PayDirect logo (with link) in our eBay auctions. I don't think it would be against their rules. Although PayDirect is a part of Yahoo, and Yahoo has an auction site, they are still separate sites within the Yahoo family. Unless I missed it, you aren't linking to Yahoo auctions when you go to paydirect.yahoo.com.
Anyway, I could very well be wrong about this. I'll post the answer from SafeHarbor as soon as I get it.

abingdon--I'm interested in the reply from safeharbor. I'd like my paydirect to link like the paypal one does on ebay.
waiting to hear the outcome...

it is okay to use a paydirect link in your auctions, it is no different than a paypal link.

I was told by safeharbor that they can only police one mouse click away. This means that you can link to your innocuous web page that has a link to a Yahoo/Amazon auction (or porn or whatever) and it is not their concern.
It follows that you can link to Paydirect - which would take a second mouse click to lead to anything that competes with ebay.
It also follows that Paypal is the big threat to Ebay's billpoint and so anything that dilutes their strength is a good thing for ebay.

If I understand what you said correctly, then an eBay listing could have a link to the seller's web site. And the web site could then have a link such as: "Check out my current Yahoo Auctions!".
Is this correct?

Although PayDirect is a part of Yahoo, and Yahoo has an auction site, they are still separate sites within the Yahoo family.>>
Well, one week I had up a few of my chaplets and I linked to my main chaplets pages. About three clicks away on one of my other sites that is connected to the chaplets site I have an address to my Yahoo Auctions and also my Ebay auctions. All those auctions were taken down (the last day of course) because of that link to Yahoo on one of MY pages far away from the chaplet page. I was surprised because it was deeply linked away. One would have had to go to a lot of affort to get to it and I didn't advertise it was there. The auctions were taken down with no warning. Yahoo Paydirect page makes it a lot easy to get to their auctions then my site did, so I am not going to chance it unless they ebay says it is okay on a whole or something. I hope they do would make it a lot easier. I am sure paypal is hoping they don't. I would hate to have a good auction going and have it deleted but I am quite eager to hear what they have to say.

tracyg - when they took down your auctions, did they tell you specifically why? It makes no sense that your auctions were shut down because of a Yahoo link 3 clicks deep. ??

Yes, they told me they took it down because of the Yahoo link. I wrote them back about it not being a direct link and how far away it was that I didn't even really think of it which was the truth. I knew it was there, but it was so deep in I didn't think it mattered. The sellers that sell chaplets and rosaries are well I hate to say it blood thirsty. Well, most of them. I am not there is enough for us all and that is only a small part of what I sell, but I think it was one of them that reported because I doubt e-bay would have gone that far out of their way, unless one of their search worms found it but it would have had to go deep much deeper them most go. I told Ebay it makes no sense because it was so far away they pretty much said any page that goes to a page that goes to page that has a link to another auction is not permitted on ebay and not to let it happen again. Really if you think about it that makes all links a violation on Ebay, but that is what I was told and I don't want to risk them taking my auctions down again. I do still shake my head when I think about it. You are correct it makes no sense.

VM...about this one click away...here is my experience. A few months ago, I got a letter from eBay telling me that my "about me" page had illegal links. I thought they were crazy because I didn't have any links to any other sites in my page. They explained that just the "text" that I also sold at Yahoo, Amazon, Gold's, whatever...was not allowed...it didn't have to link.
This happened at a time I was posting my displeasure on their boards over one of their new features. Guess someone decided to look at my "me" page and report me. I was furious and took the whole page down.
So...does one click away only apply to web sites and the About Me pages are treated differently? If that's the case, then I will put a link in my auctions for my web page so my customers can see where else I sell.

If a Safeharbor rep tells me that it's ok to have the PayDirect link in my listings, I'm going to save that email and send it right back to 'em if and when they pull my auctions. As soon as I hear from them I'll post the email.

I put it my ebay auctions tonight also : ) first time I listed anyone since I made it. I had someone pay me (from my Yahoo auctions tonight and I didn't even send out an e-mail yet, nor did I have it listed on the auction since it was an older one, but it was a okay with me!) Went as smooth as silk and I like that Yahoo won't be changing the rules at a drop of a hat. I have been with them on the auctions for awhile and they seem to take their time and let people absorb changes if there are going to be any!
PS Thanks for the "this is so Nice" made me smile.

I guess it will take a little while but it does seem to be catching on : )

Well, I used the banner last weekend along with these words "PAYDIRECT a Free, Fast, Easy and SECURE to use service that takes credit cards (VISA MASTERCARD),
ATM/check card. So, you can pay online! Address to be sent winning bidder. (putting the link here would be against e-bays rules since it is a competitor which is understandable. "
Left out anything about paypal and had quite a few people pay with paydirect. Went very smoothly. Has aout 11 or 12 people pay using paydirect.
and I put this in the E-mail
Visa Master Card taken by Yahoo! PayDirect a service that lets you send or receive money online from an account you fund with your credit card or checking account(free service). (paydirect's Url was Here) Paypal is no longer free to sellers (starting October 1st) and I don't want to pass on the extra cost so I am trying PayDirect)
And I love how smooth and easy it all went even transfering my money elsewhere was smooth.
How did it go for the others?

I have had at least 25 Paydirect payments and no complaints. I also just read on the Yahoo board that money transfered to X.com from Paydirect, arrives faster than money transfered to X.com from Paypal. I thought that was an interesting little tidbit (thanks granee)
