Just letting you all know if you have plans to list the genuine articles that they are no longer wanted at the Ebay site.

Just a thought...does that mean all those fancy hunter trophys will be banned as well? They bring top dollar on Ebay.

Are you saying the policy has changed?

***Animal Pelts and Skins - Animal parts, including pelts and skins from endangered species (e.g., leopards, tigers, cheetahs, jaguars, sable antelopes, mountain zebras and Hartmann mountain zebras) may not be sold in interstate commerce and therefore cannot be listed on eBay. Animal pelts and skins from non-endangered species (e.g., non-protected species of zebras, coyotes) may generally be listed on eBay, if not in violation of the seller's specific state laws. ***

But that excludes at least one species so far. The Black Bear.

I'm sure more will join the PC list as time goes on.

Not to forget that most of the endangered species are perfectly legal to sell as long as one holds a valid permit. Just not on eBay.

Perhaps Yahoo or one of the Antique niche sites?

BTW, I had a friend who listed a zebra cape (NOT the endangered Zebra) and ebay yanked that auction without asking--and apparently they can't tell the difference either. Que Sara....

I'm puzzled. I've seen literally hundreds of vintage fur coats from the 40s and 50s and earlier and later. Mink, Persian lamb, fox, beaver, you-name-it. Since when have these items been banned, and can you point us to the new rule? Thanks.

I suspect that PETA or some other animal welfare/rights group has gone full tilt into getting this stuff completely off Ebay. There was a post from a seller on one of the Ebay boards saying that she's been trying to sell PLASTIC faux tortoise shell widgets, and the auctions have been repeatedly cancelled.

zeenza,

I too am curious as to where this is posted on eBay. Can you provide a link? I just quickly pulled up fur coat on eBay, and there is 1077 items. Of course, many of these are "faux" fur, but just as many are real, or have real fur collars, etc.

I think maybe you are misunderstanding Ebay's rule. There is nothing against listing mink fur items (or other non-endangered species). The ban is on endangered species only and I dont believe it is Ebay's rule, but an Interstate Trade
rule and since Ebay is Interstate, I believe
they have to abide by the rule. I myself have listed a mink stole in the past with no problem. Just stay clear of the endangered species furs and you shouldnt have a problem.

This also applies to anything that is outlawed in CALIFORNIA. Because Ebay is in CA, anything that is illegal to sell there, is not allowed on Ebay. (it figures that CA. has some of the most ridiculous and eccentric laws in the U.S..May be illegal to wear clothing there someday LOL) I tried to sell a bear claw necklace(which is perfectly lawful in my state and most other states) and they yanked it..funny enough, there were about 50 other bear claw auctions that went through that same week, without a hitch. Guess the BEAR claw police were not up to the job.. LOL

Alas..mine was a Cheetah. A fabulous beast which I would never harm. I sold another 2 years ago and brought a nice paycheck home for it. I of coarse jumped at the chance to buy this one and offer it up on Ebay. Ah well, the Ebay Gods have spoken yet again. What shall be done about the 1045 taxidermied (spell check) 'trophys' on Ebay? Guess its ok if you hunt them down and kill them yourself. WHAT ABOUT the teddy bears made out of old mink coats? Oh, never mind... forget I ever said anything.

2 yrs ago, well there ya go. Not much on eBay is the same as it was 2 yrs ago.
Every week/day one needs to read up on the current rules & regs. The rule you broke has been around for a VERY long time.

I doubt you'll find many [if any] cheetah, leopard, tiger, or jaguar items on eBay.

The faux furs don't count.

What a neat idea! I'm not a fur person (not much need for fur coats in New Mexico) or much of a teddy bear person, so never thought of doing something like that!

I bought a beautiful Airdale fur in the past year. Would that be illegal now? I don't believe they're endangered.

Did the Airdale by any chance have tire tracks across its back and a Frisbee in its jaws?
