Okay, no looking on your neighbors papers. Here's the test. the old BillPoint fee on a $9.99 item was $0.35. Without any help tell me what fee is in October on the $9.99 item.

I'm not the brightest candle on the cake, so help me out.

Still the flat $0.35 rate.

Only now they extended it to anything under $15.00. It was previously anything under $10.00.

Okay, that's what I thought too, but if the following is true:

As you can see, we substantially lowered your credit card transaction fee from 3.50% to 1.75% (plus the usual $0.35 per transaction fee). We also raised the dollar size of transactions that qualify for our flat $0.35 rate from $10 to $15! In both cases, funds will automatically be deposited to your FDIC-insured bank account EACH DAY for an additional 0.5%.

Is is possible the .35 on the 9.99 item has increased to .39?

(9.99 x .5%) + .35 = .39995?

You would be correct...I didn't even notice that.

"You would be correct...I didn't even notice that."

Don't feel bad, it flew over my head too. I'm not 100% that the .399 is correct. The request for a check was sincere.

You mean this is an automatic sweep charge?

Yep, automatic sweep charge, which they had been doing all along for *free*.

Your math is correct, uaru. I thought you weren't sure on the wording.

I hadn't noticed this before. It seems that they used to include this as part of their fees. Now they have separated it. Is this an option? If not then the new charges as of Oct 1st would actually be 2.25% + .5% = 2.75% or 1.75% + .5% = 2.25%

Then, of course, you add "now compare this cost to the cost of other available services such as PayPal".

At which point the only correct answer is " the available information to determine this answer is not available".

Maybe this will start a new trend in auctions "the winning bid will have an additional, as yet undetermined amount added to the total plus s/h " Auction winner will be notified of the total following the close of the auction by submitting a signed but not filled out check or an open amount CC authorization. They will then be able to check their accounts to determine final cost.

The final price will be influenced by, but not limited to, factors such as your intent in how the item will be used, your number of transactions on eBay in the recent past and the average temperature, at noon, on the day the auction closes, in the cities of origin and destination for the specific item.

This will clearly add a whole new element of suspense to the auction process and return excitement to even the most mundane purchase.

Wow! I didn't think eBay marketing had it in them! They jiggle a few numbers, slip in a little tiny sweep fee WHILE declaring the just lowered rates and they did it just to help their valued sellers out! Gotta hand it to them. Someone will probably get a promotion out of this doncha think?

It isn't an option, they just separated it for appearances.

LMBO....Ebay's Billpoint would NEVER stoop to the low down, underhanded practices that caused everyone to heap huge piles of burning coals on PP's head, eh????

It's BUSINESS, folks....it's every man (or third party CC payment service) for himself here.

When I mentioned that fact that IMO nothing had changed for me [already had the 2.25% rate] this was the reponse from a Billpoint rep.

Dear reddeer:

I just wanted to be sure you noticed that your electronic check transactions are now free, and that we moved
the size of the small ticket sale from $10.00 to $15.00. So, you'll now only pay $.35 for transactions between
$10.00 and $15.00. You pay both a percentage plus a fixed fee for these, in the current pricing schedule.

Best Regards, Wynonna

It appears I missed the BOTH portion of that last sentence. I guess something did change for me afterall?

"So, you'll now only pay $.35 for transactions between

Yeah, but if you want to actually GET those funds into your account, you have to pay their .5% "deposit" fee.

As I understand it, BillPoint is different in PayPal in this regard. With PayPal, you can either keep your funds for future use in your PayPal account, or manualy (or automatically) transfer them into a checking account. But to my knowledge, BillPoint doesn't allow you to just keep your funds in a BillPoint account to use against future payments (correct me if I'm wrong). So you've pretty much GOT to transfer the $$ into your checking account and pay the extra .5%, no?

Also, the 1.75% advertised effective Oct. 1(which is really 1.75 + .5 = 2.25%) wasn't offered to everybody, apparently. Some folks got notified of higher rates effective Oct. 1.

If you did not receive the lower rate, you can request it by writing:

[email protected]

I don't know how responive they are -- I just sent my request in yesterday.

Does anyone know how many rates they have? When I asked them they will only say they offer several tiers.

uaru - The teirs are based on volume using some secret formula that only they know. I believe that you receive slightly lower rates as pass through the teirs on your transactions. Also the daily sweeping fee allows for your cash to be swept daily to your bank account. Prior to this they swept the cash to your bank in 3 to 5 business days.

So IMHO the daily sweeping option will prove to be a cash cow for billpoint. They realize as I do that the average ebayer will sweep every transaction daily to their bank account instead of waiting three to five business days. Which if you really practice sound business accountng isn't that much of a benefit. If you on the other hand like the average ebayer actually think having your money every single day is a real benefit you will pay them an extra five percent for your billpoint sales.

Sounds like the managers at ebay/billpoint are stooping to exploit the lack of business sense or principles of the average ebay seller for profit. That IMHO is much worse than paypal's new policies.

"the daily sweeping option"

The automatic deposit with BillPoint isn't an option. They've just broken it apart from the old fees. The automatic sweep is mandatory. Its a bit like buying a car and having them considering the steering wheel as an option.
