NO, I don't think so.
You can go here:
http://www.usps.gov/cttgate/
to track delivery of Express Mail and Priority Mail Global Guaranteed. You can also and confirm delivery for domestic Priority Mail and Parcel Post if you've paid for Delivery Confirmation.
Tracking and confirming delivery are different, but you can access both here.
(Or did you have another URL that DOES track insurance numbers for USPS? If so, give it up!!)

To "track" using the insurance I believe the person receiving the item has to sign a form with the post office stating that they never received the item. Then the post office will
"track" the item or look for it. This is the only way that I know how to do this.
Of course, since the USPS now has the unclaimed items up for auction, will they really check?

give it a try, I just tried it with a insurnace number i got a week ago....maybe it was just a fluke....it showed a delivery and pickup on the web site just like DC. I got the package too, I did not have to ask the post office to "Track" it.
I'll try it again later back at home, and post the number up for ya'll to try.

It does show if it has been delivered or not, but doesn't "track" it. But, who needs tracking anyway? I just want to know if it got there or not.
I used this url...

My PO told me last month that all insured packages + $50 (that require the blue sticker with numbers) will be scanned and the signature held on file. If a need arises, you can actually request a copy of the scanned signature of WHO signed for the package. It was only available in certain areas at that time, but was going to eventually be available everywhere. I was told you would be able to access the information the same way you currently do DC.

Hi magazine_guy,
I'm lost, but what number are you guys putting in? Or are they the over $50 insurance reciepts? I'm looking at all these green ones for under $50 insurance.
Thanks

ShellyHerr-It's the blue ones that actually have a number barcoded.

yes, the over $50 insurance receipts. There is a number on them like this for example.
VV 547 901 814 US
You can now enter that number at this URL
http://www.usps.com/cgi-bin/cttgate/ontrack.cgi
and get the tracking information. Items insured over $50 are now 35 cents cheaper for me ship as I'll no longer purchase the Delivery Confirmation.

Darn,
The green ones don't have a tracking number on them. I wonder if this will change in the near future. My post office use to put the green form in the machine and it would automatically print the info. Now it doesn't do that. You have to hand write all of the info. I am wondering if this is because they are getting ready to change forms to include a tracking number.

A big thanks from me too! It does work. I will now be saving the DC costs from all items I'm insuring with the blue nubmered insurance ticket for my more expensive items.
And on my most recent shipment, the insurance number showed up "was delivered" before the info from the Dc scan showed up.
This web site is one of the best places I know of to keep up with useful info thanks to the good folks on these messsage boards!

I'm thinking now that they also scan in my packages with the green bar coded customs form on them- wonder if these will show up in this search as well? Perhaps not on the receiving end, but at least to demonstrate proof of mailing?

Thanx for the info, but personally that just pi**es me off! Why in the heck didn't the USPS tell us this in the first place? To make MORE money of course. What jerks!

The USPS ditched the old insurance forms for new one (over $50.00). The green ones are only for under $50.00, which I always have the clerk max it out to the $50.00. It's faster than writing in all different amounts on the form, yet still only good for up to $50.00. The blue form is more costly. If it's an item you can replace from stock either don't insure it or insure it up to $50.00 providing you're comfortable with self insuring the item at all.

how come this isn't working for me. I sent a few packages out last week without DC because they were insured over $50 and when I enter the insurance number i get:" You entered VV458455103US
There is no record of that mail item. If it was mailed recently, it may not yet be tracked. Please try again later. "
I know the packages are getting there but it isn't showing up on the website for me.
Is there a big lag in the time posted?
