Okay I am wondering if this would irritate you if you bid on an auction?

I will gladly accept your check. I will ship your item when I receive your check and will leave feedback when the check clears.

Thanks!

Doesn't make a lot of sense, but I would not be irritated. It is as if feedback has more value than the item.

I just had a seller post to let me know that they got my check and would be shipping on Oct.15th.
The check is for $5.25.
Up against this - you're making out like a bandit!

Some people expect a thief around every bend. I figure that living that way is punishment enough. Let it roll.

No, unless they never left feedback.

Very Modern: ??? Are they walking?

I always leave feedback.

I am just playing around with this thought because if you leave the feedback right away there is no way to warn other sellers if the check bounces and the buyer refuses to make good.

I've read posts here that sellers have gotten a bounced check a month or more after it was deposited. That seems like a long time to have to keep track of a transaction before considering it complete- is it worth that much work? Another question- how do you know for sure the check has cleared? I would think you would have to contact the bank the check was written on to find out, and I'm sure that would be a lot of work.

Sorry labbie - I misunderstood and thought you recieved this from a seller.

I guess I think that if you are going to trust, may as well go all the way. Good point about warning other seller's but you would be holding up fb for 99.9% of your buyer's on account of the .1% that may bounce a check and not make good on it. You can also just withhold for anyone that you feel may be risky. I have never had a deal go south without plenty of forewarning in one form or the other.

Either you accept someone's payment or you don't. This one's definitely not clear on the concept. Why doesn't he just say that he reserves the right to neg you. I tell my bidders that there is a fee for bounced checks. I've had one out of hundreds of auctions.

labbie1: It also seems better than holding on to shipments for however long it takes to clear. I see a lot of TOS that say ship when check clears.

Actually this is my 3rd season on Ebay and I haven't had one bounce yet (knock on wood here) but I was trying to shave my tos and EOA down to something manageable. It was beginning to look like Encyclopedia Britannica

I have always put something to the effect that checks are welcome but may be held for 10 days just because sometimes you get one that seems a little hinky and don't want to take any chances.

I am just trying for a kinder gentler TOS.

It's just semantics, but I wouldn't hold the check -- I'd hold the item. I always chuckle at TOS's that say they'll hold the check. I deposit the check as soon as possible so I can see if it's going to be good or not.

Unless I was in a hurry, it's...whatever. However, I just got my first bad check for $11.49. Since my bank deposits twice, the bidder knew it bounced the first time before I did. (and didn't make it right) Plus my bank charged me $3.00, what a bummer. Emailed and called the buyer, said they would send me the money. I requested a money order this time. ooops got off onto a tangent. Anyway, it took 30 days for my bank to tell me it bounced, so it doesn't make sense to me any more to hold the package until the check clears. I've been sending out the day after I receive a check for a year now with success. (one bad check out of hundreds is not a bad average at all)

Anyway, there are so many other things that I can let irritate me, I just let this one slide on by. I just consider the source.

I don't post feedback for buyers who've paid by check until the check clears! I've had two bad checks so far. My bank charges me $10 per check. It takes about 3 weeks before I know a check bounced if the bank redeposits it a second time. The buyer has their merchanidise. Feedback is the only thing I can hold over someone's head to get them to pay up on a bad check.

Still waiting for payment on the second one. Unfortunately that one took 6 weeks for some reason and I already posted positive.

Technically, I don't have their payment until the check is clear.
I have a memory like a steel trap .. unfortunately it's rusted shut!
