I had read all of the posts today about X.com taking a possible nosedive, so I decided I would go pull all of my money out of my account the quickest way I knew. Pulled up to my favorite ATM and slapped in the card and put in my trusty pin number and patiently waited for my money to appear. Well, guess what, NO MONEY!! Said my pin number did not match my card, wow, I had just used it 2 days ago. My pin worked those days... so, guess there are more problems than we expected?? Hopefully, someone out there in X.com land will get their stuff together long enough for me to get my money before they go buy more of those fancy-dan cars and leave the country!! :|

Geez. Try again lately? Try it as a CC just as a test? I would.

This is probably against their rules (or someone's!) but what *I* would probably do is use the x.com card with a pay pal account, then use pay pal to send the money to a friend (or spouse!), and have the money PayPal'ed/deposited electronically from there into a DIFFERENT bank account.

Clear as mud? This makes me nervous though. I am still worried about my recent wire transfer I made TO x.com to cover a check I wrote the same day (my money juggling skills are seasoned... wire transfer hits in 24 hours, check doesn't hit for 5 days, not a problem, ok?).. and that's for my cable/internet access so I am going to be P.O.'ed if something happens through no fault of my own because x.com's acting screwy!

Well, I recently got a new card from x.com to replace my card which I lost. So, yesterday I went to register the new card at another online service I use and they ask for the 3 digit code on the back of the card...no problem. I list the number and the site won't accept it...keeps saying it is wrong. Now, I know from nothing about numbers and codes but, the 3 numbers on the back of the code are zeros...all 3 of them...smell something fishy here?

And, my original card had an expiration date two years from now...this one is only 1 year. That might not be anything, but when you string it together....

Have also heard that the banking regulatory board..or whatever...has not approved the First Western National Bank deal with X.com...so maybe they now have no backers that are FDIC approved?!

There were also problems accessing their site all day...but I am skittery now and believe I will just deal with my local bank and it's online services from now on. If I have to open up another checking account just for the internet, then that's what I'll do...but I am moving my small balance out of X.com first thing on Monday and closing the account.

I will leave PayPal open for the time being, but I am pushing other methods of payment in my auctions. I keep less than $50 in PP, so not too worried about getting badly burnt. But with all the shenanigans with these 2 bedmates, I'd rather not deal with either of them anymore.

well the X.com web site is working now I was just there .

all is fine my line of credit now say $0.00 available this is more then likely why the site was down to make these changes.

the x.com debit card I got last year when I frist signed up had a experation date of one year from the date it was issued.

and I just used my debit card on line with no trouble.

if you use your debit card like any other credit card no pin number is needed.dont forget when they issue you the new card NEW number you are supose to call there toll free number on a touch tone phone to activate the new card with the activation code that came with it before you use it or it will come up as not active or invalid every time the activation code is not your pin number and the card cant be activated at an ATM Machine.

buy the way the number on the back of your x.com visa debit card is the same one that is on the front the and that is all that is needed to use this card just like any other credit card.

the three extra number on the bank after the card number have nothing to do with useing this card as a credit card or debit card I use my card for everything works fine.

d-man...thanks for the heads up on x.com site working now. I'll give it a shot.

As for my new card...it has been activated. I know the number on the back is the same as the acct. # on the card, however, there is an extra 3 numbers tacked onto the end of the card number that is some sort of code and some sites want that code when you register the card. I think this is probably some way they have of verifying that you are not trying to perpetuate a fraud, by giving someone's card, but not actually having the card in your possession (did that make sense to you?...I know what I mean)

I also know that older cards do not have this number. I also had to give the code on another card recently...I think it was for my Yahoo PayDirect account...because my card is a debit/credit card, so I usually register the bank and the card.

I had no problem registering the 1st card, but this one simply will not go. Then again, this site is another online payment service that I have been registered with for months, only no one ever uses it. The balance is -0-, so maybe they think I am trying to register as a new user. I called them yesterday and as of today, no answer, so I guess I'll have to wait until Monday and give them another call. It is probably a problem with them and not X.com, but still all these changes coming so quick together and without notice tends to make a body nervous.

I have tried to stay cool through all this and not join the screaming hordes, but even I am beginning to think that the future with PayPal/X.com is not too bright.

X.Com is FDIC insured as the accounts are with the First Western National. A bank either is or is not FDIC insured - no slightly pregnants here. PayPal et al are having enough self inflicted problems - do we need to add rumor mongering to the pot?

I appreciate that folks have problems and need rapid solutions to those problems - but this rumor and innuendo stuff is disgraceful! -Rosalinda

I sign up for yahoo pay direct and did it with my debit card they dont ask for any extra number just the credit card number and experation date.

also billpoint also paypal and exchangepath and payplace yahoo autions ebay auction tucows earthlink used it at walmart kmart sears jc penny staples finger hut not one required extra numbers from my x.com visa debit card not sure why anyone would want these at all.

I do a few hundered dollars in direct and mail deposits withdrwals and transaction all with the debit card weekly never been charged a penny for this service. the only thing that could make it better is if you could make deposits with your debit card or they had drive up windows or some way to make quicker deposits.

rnrgroup:

Your right X.com is FDIC insured and all my check have First Western National bank printed on them. and this group certinly needs no more rumor, problems or confusion then they already have with paypal.

Excuse me, I hope you were not talking to me because I was not "rumor mongering"...I was reporting a problem that I am having with my X.com card, because I saw this thread.

I also believe that I stated quite clearly that the problem may lay with the other site and not X.com.

I also said that I have not been one of the persons screaming for blood, but you can't fault me or anyone else for being nervous these days.

PP may have shot themselves in the foot, but what is X.com's excuse for notifying all their customers that there will be no more credit line on the same day they eliminate it...not even 24 hours notice.

I'm sorry if you are offended but, IMHO, to me, the actions of these partners in the last few weeks is what is disgraceful! And if it makes me feel like there is another shoe waiting to drop, I think I have a right to say so without being accused of spreading rumors or implying innuendoes.

dman....PayPlace is the one that is giving me trouble. They do want that 3 digit code on the back of the card and when I enter the code, it is rejected. My old X.com visa card was registered with them, so I don't know what the problem is now...that is what I am trying to find out.

ladyjane and dman---same problem here with PayPlace. I tried to register my x.com debit card as a visa card and it won't accept it. If you find out why, please let us know!

As for the original reason for this thread, I've never used my card as an ATM card (can't remember the PIN number), but I use it DAILY as a credit card, and have had no trouble whatsoever! Maybe it's just a bad card-my husband has had two from our credit union and had to have them replaced.

"I had read all of the posts today about X.com taking a possible nosedive, so I decided I would go pull all of my money out of my account the quickest way I knew."

Perhaps banks aren't your cup of tea. I'd be a nervous wreck if I withdrew money from my bank accounts in a panic at every interest rate change, policy change, or news of them discontinuing giving out free calendars.

The beauty of message boards is you can be a prophet of doom on the street corner with a sign around your neck and your friends won't even know its really you.

I'm able to take a relaxed outlook on finacial matters. Since I lost everything during the dreaded 'Y2K Bug' I've very little to risk any more.

Just to let everyone know, I got my card to work as a credit card. Pin still won't work, but now that doesn't matter, as I have spent the tiny balance I had in there. I have now gone to a more secure bank, Everbank.com. Feel much better now.

And yes, I've several years of banking experience and have never seen a bank do the things that x.com is doing. So, therefore, for me, its best to move on.

I've heard everbank.com is a great bank, provided you keep the balance over $1,500.00. You probably don't want to keep a 'tiny balance' in that account.

"$1,500 is required in any month to earn interest and avoid $4.95 service fee. Minimum deposit of $500 required to open an account."
