Today I bought a bunch of old Life magazines from the late 40's and early 50s. I love them, they're in great condition with no folds, tears or bends but they sure do have that old musty smell to them! I laid them out on my deck with the hopes that a few hours of fresh air would get rid of the odor but no such luck. Is there something I could spray on them or is there another way to get rid of that smell without ruining the magazine of course?

Thank you for posting that helpful link Fountainhouse. I never knew cat box litter had that use!!! I will try it and see what happens to the musty odor these magazines have!

I've had excellent luck with just good old baking soda! I put the magazines in an airtight box, set a small dish of baking soda next to them and close them up for a week. Takes out musty smell, smoke. They smell great when I take them out.
