Back at the end of January, I sold a box lot of paperbacks. The winner replied to the win notice with her address and that was the last I heard from her until last week!
I had gone through the NPB, FVF, all of the hoops and still no word from her. Around the first of March, I gave her the negative she deserved, moved on and promptly forgot about her.
Last week, via snail mail, I received an envelope from her. Inside was a copy of my original EOA notice, a personal check dated March 3rd and a handwritten letter. I am paraphrasing, but the letter went something like this:
My computer died after I won your auction. I actually had some sort of virus. I hope you didn't catch it from me when I replied to your original e-mail. When it died, I was left with literally hundreds of payments to sellers that I could not figure out how to contact them. It has taken me this long to learn the library's computer system and I apologize for the delay. If you still have the books, please send them to me as soon as possible. I will be sure to leave positive feedback as soon as they are received.
She had my original EOA enclosed with a date printed on the bottom of January 26th. Her check was dated March 3rd, coincindentally the same day I gave her the neg.
I checked her e-mail address that I had on file and eBay says she is not a member. I sent everything back to her with a note that said, "Sorry, but the books are long gone."
Perhaps she misread my TOS that says payment due in 10 days and thought it say 10 months!

LOL! Was it postmarked in March or did she "pre-date" her check? I've received payments months later that were lost in the mail (one arrived in a plastic sleeve from the PO with a note that it had been found stuck inside a piece of machinery!)

I have a bidder who won't go away. They won a camera auction in May and paid with 1-click, even though I had disabled 1-click. They left out shipping and tax. I emailed them repeatedly and heard nothing. So I refunded the payment and sold to someone else. A week later the husband emails and says wife must have missed it, could they still get the camera? I told him I would let him know as soon as it was in stock. I get in another one, email him. He says he' going away for the weekend, he'll send payment Monday. I told him I'll wait until Wed, then I am selling it. I email him mon, tue, wed, then I sell it. Friday he paypals me the money. My dealer is out of stock. I refund. A few weeks later, he emails again and asks if I have any in. I told him I am getting some in shortly. They come in, I email him and hear nothing. I sell them, his wife emails and says hubby missed it, can they still get it. It is now October and they are still emailing me that they want it. I told them that since I have a steady supply, they can paypal me the money any time. Now they say they dont like paypal so they are investigating other services. I would consider them total deadbeats but they paid twice.

Dixiebee: Me too, me too!! I had the same bidder back in January for books on Amazon. I had already sold books to her in a previous auction and it took forever for her to pay. She seemed to be a compulsive buyer because she had scores of winning bids on eBay and Amazon and all kinds of personal problems that prevented her from paying. When she bid and won two of my auctions in January, I just groaned. She had the nerve to email me she was happy to be a repeat buyer. Then I went through weeks of emails, NPB, gave her negative, etc. and moved on. I received the same letter about virus problems and a $4.00 check dated March 4th a couple of weeks ago. Envelope was dated Sept. 19th. I was blown away. Then I was kind of sad because this girl obviously has got some kind of problem. Duh! Sent her check and notes back - "books no longer available".
