No... but I will upgrade if it ever appears that I'm about to come close to the $500/6 months limit.

I will upgrade just before I hit the $500.00 limit. Why pay them any fees before I have to?

Not a chance. I'll use another free service! PayPlace or PayDirect only other than that MO's checks or cash will be fine! PayPal lied and I won't deal with liers. Wait! Maybe they didn't lie; I supose that depends on what the meaning of always free is.

No I switched to paydirect a few weeks ago. I am very happy with it and sleep well with it. Never did that with paypal. I switched not because of the fees but because of the unprofessional manner in which paypal and its employees handle this whole thing. Especially here on the boards. They made it worse because they proved that have no business sense. So, I wasn't about to pay them for a service that can't get it together.

Yes, upgraded this morning. Love PayPal and so do my customers. The fees are minimal and I have never had a problem.

On Oct. 16th, I will be tanning my buns on the beautiful Outer Banks of North Carolina! When I get home will I upgrade? NO!

No. I'll continue to use it for a while, but I will be trying to phase other services. I think PP is just out of control with all their new little rules and stipulations (such as for my buyer who couldn't pay me until he verified his bank account).

NO. Not no way, not no how. Will never verify, will never upgrade. Will keep my PayPal account until it hits that $500/6 month limit, and then I am outta there. About to close my x.com account, as I will NOT pay the $12/month maintenance fee, as it's higher than the $9/month fee charged by my local bank (which I already find outrageous!).
Will continue to switch to FREE services as required. Have already signed up with ExchangePath.com and PayDirect.

I added PayPlace to my auction template today, and have de-emphasized PayPal. PayPlace offers a "real" $5 referral bonus, not that phantom referral bonus offered by PayPal. I'll push folks toward PayPlace, and see how it goes.

I wonder if PayPal has really thought this whole thing through. We talked about this into the wee hours last night and decided they were out to kill the goose that lays golden eggs.. (if I got that analogy correct).

The biggest thing PayPal has going for it is its consistency and ease of use. When you bid on an item carrying the PayPal logo, you know at auction's end you can log into PayPal and transfer the payment. In all likelihood you will have the product within a few days.

So, what's going to happen from the BUYER'S standpoint come post-October 16. Let's say you win an auction, go to pay, and get kicked back because 'The person receiving your funds has reached his $500 limit and cannot accept further payments unless he upgrades to our premium service'. Or something like that.

Is the buyer going to be upset at the SELLER? Will he buy from another dealer instead?? I don't think so. This seller now looks quite desireable, he's already reached his limit and can't even accept your money he's so popular. You'll send him a check or money order. Why buy from another seller, who CAN take your PayPal money, because he hasn't reached his limit. Will fee-paying sellers be forced to differentiate themselves: 'We accept PayPal, and we pay the PayPal fees, so you don't have to worry that your payment to us won't get to me'?

So, the NEXT time this buyer goes to bid, and he sees that PayPal logo (on ANYONE'S auction), the entire perception of things has changed. Now he knows that he may, or may not, be able to pay with PayPal at auctions' end. And, he won't know until you try. So he bids or does not bid, but the PayPal logo is now meaningless. He cannot count on PayPal to help him pay for the auction. At auction's end he may, or may not, pay through PayPal, but it doesn't matter.

PayPal currently has the ability to 'force' (harsh word, can't think of another one at this time) sellers to upgrade to business / fee status. The 'stick' they use is that if a seller does NOT upgrade, he believes he will receive fewer bids. (ie, PayPal sellers receive HIGHER bids than non-Paypal sellers). The 'carrots' Paypal offers, unfortunately, aren't as exciting as they once seemed, especially if you are paying for them. (Most sellers I talk to say it takes just as long to process PayPal payments as to handle physical payments.)

If the PayPal logo becomes meaningless in the auction environment (in other words, if the buyer can't count on being able to pay with PayPal at auctions' end, for WHATEVER reason), then the value-added of using PayPal (or any payment service) is reduced substantially, and they will have lost all the perceived value of their system.

I don't see any way for the whole thing to work unless the BUYERs and SENDERs of money pay the fees.

But that's just me....

No. I'll use PayPal until I am forced to upgrade. At that point I'll close my account. I've already taken the PayPal logo out of my auctions.

I use exchangepath. Trust me on this one: You won't have to try very hard to get your customers to use it. Almost everyone that I recommend it to signs up for it, even several die-hard PayPal users. The $10 sign-up bonus makes it easy.

Edited for speeeling...

Kinda like eBud, free upgrades forever, you sell out to someone else and then they change the rules, remember x.com bought out PayPal. Auction Poster bought out eBud. These guys are pretty smart when you think about it, I have never and will never use auction poster but I love eBud, instead of making the software/program/service better lets find someone we can buy out that has a big following and try to convert them.

yes once upon a time they did say that it would free for ever, free forever if you don't exceed 500.00, that wasn't the deal. I will not upgrade, I'll just start adding the others sites that are processing transactions for free. x.com has no such rules. i'm sure they will change that soon.

I do know one thing, it would save us hours a week to stop taking PayPal all together. it's a real pain verifying all the PayPal transactions. then having to print all the PayPal payments and the confirmation letter we send. then the people that use different email address and don't send item number or descriptions for the item. then the ever popular, I sent you payment by PayPal this morning did it ship yet??

I'll stay with paypal until I reach my limit then I'll say goodbye. I too have taken their logo out of my auctions. I still mention in my TOS that I take paypal, but plan to do away with that also. If the buyer asks to use paypal I will accept it, but I won't suggest it.

I spent the better part of last evening removing the Paypal links from my 30 or so auction templates. I'll probably leave my account open but it will be top secret and all my auctions and emails will direct users to PayDirect. I was waiting for Paypal to offer the shopping cart for my web site and I am just sick at what's happened. But like another poster mentioned, I like to sleep well at night, not constantly wondering when Paypal will make an unannounced withdrawl from my account. The plus side of PayDirect is that they will NOT allow chargebacks. And that will cut down on customer fraud.

Nope I wont be up gradeing even though at this time I dont come close to meeting there $500 in 6 months I have started Exchangepath and stopped mentioning paypal if I get a payment through them I will accept it but I wont advertize it.

I am watching x.Com closely too they now want a $12 monthly fee if your balance fall under $100 I can get online banking and debit card from my local bank for a $7 monthly charge to be free but where I come from new banks looking to build depositors dont go from giveing you a $20 bill to open a free account and then take back $144 per year.

they are like the old penny pincher at sunday moreing church service thats puts .50 in the collection plate and takes out $10 change
