can i gripe... I think it is absoulutely ridiculous that I have not bought nor sold on ebay for over 6 months. i ahve posted however. Because of that someone had me suspended for false contact informtion.
NO-ONE requested my information so how can they turn me in and have me suspended?
Not saying its rigth or wrong just plain silly. I knew I should have used my posting ID instead.

Sorry to hear about this.... I bet what happened is that eBay's SOFTWARE which is programmed to check for false contact info, figured out on its own that there was something awry with the info you gave.
In other words, I wouldn't take the suspension "personally", as it was probably done by a BOT.
roBOTS ain't got NO consciousness (yet), so it's NOT like someone made a personal value judgment or that a RL human being suddenly focused on you.
I'd say that with the ever developing software, that the most recent program simply knew that your contact info was wrong, ya know?
How long is your suspension for?

radh thanks... they didn't say.... not only that the address i gave was real.
When did ebay start doing this with bots? after begging them to for years, I'd say its about time.
Just coincendtal with lots of posters being harassed I guess.

Hi,
Also suspensions for wrong contact info is a "fix it" suspension. Once the correct info is given to ebay, they reverse the suspension.

Just out of curiosity, when eBay unsuspends you (i.e. paroles you), do they send you a nice "Welcome Back" email??

well I heard back from ebay and all I have to do is fill out their form again and it takes 5 days to update it. Can I give them my cell phone number so we don't get hassled by disgruntled posters? I am not paranoid - but on townsquare evidently someone is pulling contact information right and left.
I've been thru other major flareups on the live boards and I know it can get nasty.I thought I had kept out of it. Usualy if you ignore the stuff it goes right on by.

It's real important to keep your contact information up to date. If you are changing ISPs, keep the old one active until everyone knows of the new one.
I am thinking of adding secondary email addresses to everything as a backup.

seriously, i cannot remember when i first heard about bots going through the contact info, it was LONG ago -- maybe when a number of people wondered why there was a sudden increase in naru's, or something.
eBay also has software to detect shilling patterns -- Rob Chestnut spoke about it briefly on PBS, when The Newshour did a feature on eBay.
How long have you hung out at the Town Square? I try to read posts at the RemarQ boards, but they are sooooooo depressing, so many down & out negative posts, that after a short bit, one becomes totally innured, and they all look FAKE, as though they are not even real, but only sposed to create the impression of negativity. it's HARD to read....

just a little over a month or so... usually i have been on the q/a board but my time has been chopped down. NEgative? whew you aren't kidding. and I try to dodge bullets. Probably wont' hang out much there but felt like some people needed better information than what they were getting. Soemtimes the information is really good.
I swore I would never use threaded boards but they are okay. sure need a lot of revisign to make more manageable though.

alrad: ya know, in thinking about alla this a liddle bit, it occurs to me, that since SO many people are complaining about having their contact info pulled, presumably because of their posts on the eBay RemarQ boards, that perhaps eBay is actually MANUALLY going through reams of contact info.
But WHO KNOWS??
There is NO way to know; however, SO many things are automated nowadays, that it's important to realize that responding in a *normal* HUMAN emotional manner is simply not so wise, as the provocateur may be LITERALLY inhumane, a piece of software, just doing its job, contingent upon the expertise of its programmer...

After reading this thread I decided to go in and check my contact info to make sure it was up-to-date. I noticed that my secondary phone number was wrong and changed it. With no warning, I've now had my ID Verify taken away. So, now just for changing a secondary phone number, I have to pay another $5. By the way I have to use ID Verify to sell because I don't have a CC. If only they'd warned me first, I would have appreciated it.

Well, in order in ensure the integrity of the User VERIFICATION Program, they cannot very well verify ONE set of infomation, and then allow anyone to come back in and change ANY of the information --- were they to permit this, any of the pranksters and the outright criminal or sociopathic perpetrators of fraud could have a FIELD DAY at eBay under the aegis of being a fully verified user.
Just think of the havoc they could wreak, were this possible -- and all for just FIVE BUCKS.

RADH most of the pranksters etc don't want to use accts that have built good feedback. and only SELLERS have to use ID verify.. If you are only bidding there is no need.
My observation is that most of the pranksters use 0 or low feedback to pull pranks.
the other observation is taht I have on two occassions had NEED to change the ID to protect self from pranksters.
If they would simply make an effort to verify EVERYONE for free (good grief it doesn't cost you to verify thru PayPal adn you didn't need to give up social sercurity or have equifax background check)

I've had some time to think about it and this is what I came up with. The ONLY thing I changed was my secondary phone number. I did not touch my address or my primary phone number. During the verification process, the only information they verify is your name, email address, home address and phone number, NOT the secondary phone number. I just think it's frustrating. Although I've chalked it up to a learning experience I would still like to email someone about this, but I have no idea who...any suggestions?
Also I agree with you that it is much easier to get verified through PayPal and doesn't cost anything. Heck I even had money deposited into my bank account in the verification process

I would try e-mail ebay every day about this. I did this once when I had a problem with them, and after 13 e-mails I received a very intelligent answer from someone who took the time to look into things, and the problem got corrected on their end.
Something to think about.
