The high bid was $76.00, reseve not met. Another bidder place a bid of $375.00 and met the reserve. The bidder who met the reserve retract the bid 12 hours later claiming "wrong amount". Now the bid is back down to $76.00. Isn't the bid binding when the reserve is met? Should the wrong amount be retracted immediately? What to do help!!!

I'm not sure what if anything there is to do. You can't force someone to follow through, and while upsetting, a bid retraction is better than a deadbeat.
Did you look to see if this bidder does a lot of retractions? It really could have been a mistake.

Good morning,
When they have more bid retractions than feedback it’s habitual! Turn them over to safe harbor and cross your fingers that they will deal with them. Important note, I said cross your fingers not hold your breath.

I uust look through over 90 items on the bidder. The bidder has 2 retract bid: 10/10/2000 (claim wrong amout) and 10/11/2000(claim wrong item). One of the two is on my item. Bidder also has one Non paying bidder negative feedback.

How do you check bid retractions on a bidder? I've noticed in the feedback box that is says how many they've retracted but how do you tell on what and what the reason was? It's probably right at the end of my nose an I'm just missing it.

It is not easy, but I did it.
First search by bidder, including completed items. I look through bid history of all of the items in the list.

antiquebarn2,
If you take a look at thier feedback/ID card. They have retracted 40 bids in the last 6 months.
Please write Safe Harbor.

I would also email them and ask them to not bid on any more of your auctions. CC a copy to safeharbor. That way if safeharbor won't do anything about their retractions, you can at least keep them out of your auctions.

It is probably some kind of game to find out what reserve is. Then they retract, no harm done. (SO THEY THINK!!!!)

I am obligated to sell if the reserve is met. The bidder is obligated to buy it the reserve is met.
Is this not true anymore?

antiquebarn2 - Those two things are only true once the auction has closed. Until then, eBay lets buyer and seller pretty much do whatever they want... seller can cancel bids, bidder can retract.

it is not "binding" until the auction is over and then it really isn't binding either. The worst you can do after an auction is over if a person doesn't bid is neg them and file a NPBA. I know some people that bid and if they find a better deal the just take back their bid. I don't like it as a seller that is for sure, but that is life. I would image if this person has 40 take backs that is what they are doing.

safeharbor will warn a habitual bid retracter. They even say if the bidder doesn't shape up they will get suspended (although I've never heard of that happening). 40 retractions? Definately a problem.

ebay gave him a warning?
Just more evidence that ebay doesn't give a sh!t what kind of crap goes on at its web site. If another auction site eventually kills ebay, this is the reason.

This is the reply from ebay how 43 retract in 6 month is a "first offense" because I am the first to report.
================================
Most "first offenses" at eBay are met with a warning and education.
This is to ensure that members of our community are fully aware of the
rules and regulations on our site. The first time a member is reported
is considered to be the first offense and therefore this member was
warned.
Any future activity of the same type will receive a stronger sanction.
