Not only that, but you get a bunch of people talking about things that aren't very helpful. Once I was trying to find info on Furbies, and in the Furby interest section no one was talking about Furbies!

Here you get lots of meat in your tortilla!

Comments that don't serve the purpose of the Ebay tend to become disfunctionality listed.
That is eBayese for gone...It seems rather than refute something they don't agree with they just delete it.

I have found the eBay Police to be less than helpful, especially if you want to make a critical comment. Even when they aren't cracking down on me, I don't approve of their responses to others, so I'd rather support alternative fora.

The only reason I don't post on the eBay boards is that I simply can't stand their format. They aren't threaded *and* newest posts show first, so you get answers that make no sense to questions you never see because things disappear as more comments are made. And what makes it even more difficult is that between the answer and the question you have to stumble through posts saying "Hi!" "Good Morning" "I'm drinking my coffee" and "XXX, I'm waving to you"....

To post on eBay you mustreveal your eBay ID. To post here you can remain anonymous. That can be important to some folks.

I agree I would say one of the main reason I an many other post here is the meesage format there is as nicely setup and usable as AW that is one reason.

There is also more of a knowlege base here at AW everything isnt ebay here there is buyers and sellers from all over the net.

There is also a big difference in being a comunity of users on ebay talking about ebay and a comunity of users from all over the net talking about ebay this form isnt coed.

Bunnicula!!! Your 'I am drinking coffee' comment was so damned funny!! And true. I want to vomit most days reading over Ebays boards. They have been reduced to babble in its purest form. What is the point?
I am shocked at their obvious fears of hearing the truth from their members. It is dangerous as well, if they do not allow constructive critiscism. They will not see trouble coming.

I have noticed a couple of threads referring posters to the Ebay boards. So, I checked it out.

First, I checked out the Board called Ebay's Newest Features and the
first comment that I saw was, "Going to bed now======Going to a real auction tomorrow. Poof."

Second comment from the Q & A Board..."The UK phone system has never been great."

Then, the Book Board...."Greetings all...up n at em for the HC & HC (hair curl and hot cocoa)"

And I did not search for these comments.
They were right there on top!!!

I'm here because occasionally I need a little advice and sometimes I don't want to feel like I'm the only one having the same problem. When I go over there, all I ever see is thinly disguished you-know-what chat. I don't mind friendly and flirting but over there I can't even figure out what they are talking about most of the time. They probably would think I'm too old and/or square, but I like myself the way I am and I feel more comfortable here.

I started a good thread on one of the eBay forums, got NARU'd for something completely unrelated, and now I cannot even respond to questions that people participating on my thread have asked.

The eBay forums are ONLY for eBay members in good standing. How much do you think can be said there???

The last time I checked out the DNF board on eBay, there was not one single post even remotely related to eBay there- it was nothing but a bunch of posts along the lines of "Hi- I haven't seen you for a while" and general chit-chat about pets and what's for dinner. I won't be going back anytime soon.

edited... there's no "o" in time...

I don't waste my time on the Category specific boards at Ebay. As someone pointed out, there's very little discussion about the stated topic on most of them, and the users on the ones I've visited hardly acknowledge posts from anyone who isn't a "regular". The Help & Discussion Boards are threaded like the AW message boards, and you don't get all the chit chat. They've been a tremendous learning tool for me, both as a buyer and seller.

I used to post on Q & A all the time, a long time ago. It has changed a whole lot.

Went back there recently, and its nothing like it was.

Course most of the questions back then were like:

What does the number next to my name mean?

I think I remember asking that question and they referred me to auction watch

You are right. The change that has occurred
over the past year is awesome! It used to be
a great place to learn...especially the
Q&A board. Now it's just idle chit chat
between a select few.

Wonder what happened?
Maybe too much surveillance?

I really prefer the Auction Watch format.
Topics are focused and there is a selection
here that you can't find on the ebay boards.

There was a time when I practically lived on the DNF board and Skippy had to create a NEW board for us so that we wouldn't fill up the DNF board with talk about sniping and auto-extensions.

The new board was fine for awhile and then it just got cliqueish and nonsensical. Went back to DNF a lot during the outcry over the "only a dollar" and the boycott.

Found that even majority opinion meant nothing to ebay. To use a vulgar expression it was like doing something in the wind. I was pretty much going to the edge and figured why get naru'd over what you say.

Then I found AW and I can say here what I want if I need to let off steam but better than that is that I have learned so much more over here that it's unbelieveable.

Long Live AW! Maybe I better give them some business to keep them up and going!

I post on the eBay pottery and glass boards if I have a specific question on a specific item - and they have identified several pieces for me. There are several people on both boards that specialize in certain glass and pottery categories and are always willing to help.

I probably should have inserted a smiley there. I was posting everyday on Q & A at the beginning of '97 or so, and everyone was asking questions like that-'whats the number next to my name mean' 'why do you have a star?' because then it was a huge deal to hit 50 or even huger deal to hit 100. And they were really good about answering questions, because most people then were pretty new to ebay.

Yeah I don't like it now, one: it does look like a chat board (where here you can go to AW round table) and two: you have to use your ebay name or email, and then your auctions are right there to click on too.

But last night, after this question here, went there, and scrolled to see what boards there were, I found 'The New Board' ??? huh, so I actually went in there and asked 'what is this board about?' since they have the cafe.

hinz-the catorgy specific boards I'm sure are good boards, with questions answered.

HJW-LOL

deco100-never understood the DNF board, when you go there, at the top in bold red letter is a warning about suspension for something, about talking about the wrong thing? or something.

Got so tired of scrolling post after post with hi followed by numerous names I didn't know. Or someone who came in late and they say hi everyone up there. So, I came here where you ask a question you get an answer.

Shelly, that was supposed to be a warning to stay on ebay topics instead of turning it into a recipe exchange. LOL

What either board has turned into, I don't know because I don't go there anymore.

Some have said that any criticisms or maybe only certain criticisms have been deleted by ebay.

Deco. And in the end...Ebay deletes comments which were derogatory regardingt NEW FEATURES and leaves up the recipes! Not only that but the Pink Staffers add their fav recipes to the mix.

What a world

I went to the boards as soon as I was able to after the most recent outage. There weren't any postings about the outage!

I have posted my displeasure to eBay. I have requested a full credit! Hopefully they will hear that. Everyone request credit if your auctions ended during that time. See my thread about "Anyone who wants to request a credit!"

Now mr don't you know the new ebay dictionary? Just because you could't bid or if you couldn't list then thats's not an outage that's this page ....functionality or somthing.

You may have been off for 3 hours but they will claim it was 1 hour 45 minutes every time so that they don't have to refund or extend.

You can't bid but gee, you can still read down the lists of things for sale. What's the matter? You actually want to bid? Spoil sport!

And I used to end my auctions on Sunday but now I doubt if bidders can even bid on Sunday nights, it's so crowded or "not functioning".

Ok, end of rant. Sorry to bore you but I feel a lot better and now I can go back to work!
