Hi All,

I have been selling on eBay for over a year now. Recently I've listed some hockey related items from North of the Border. Most up until now have sent money in USD funds.

Recently, I've received checks for CDN funds. Now when I take it to the bank, and the ever changing currency rate, I seem to lose money in the deal. Not much mind you but it adds up.

I have a buyer now that says he'll cheerfully send me money if I tell him what it will be in CND Funds. I could give him the conversion rate for the moment, but what if he doesn't send a check for a week? On one hand, I could gain money.. But I'm afraid of the other hand that normally slaps me in the face.

Do I have to start listing my prices as USD and state that I only except USD? Am I obligated to accept CND funds without this specified in my ads?

Your thoughts...

GolfNFool on here as well as on eBay.. I'm proud of my name!

This here Canadian (ME) would never expect a US seller to take Canadian funds.

Maybe he justs wants to know how much Cdn cash to take to the Post office to get you a US Fund money order----refer him to foreign exchange site so he can do his own figuring.

Zazzie, don't take me wrong.. I don't have any problems with having Canadian customers! In fact I love ALL my customers

But this one bothered me because they just sent an email asking for me to tell them what they owed in Canadian Funds.

I have accepted CND funds from other customers when they sent a check from their bank. Most of the time I have lost about $.50 cents on each of those transactions.

I'll probably just pad this by a couple of extra bucks, I just wandered if other US sellers were taking CND funds or are they specifing USD in their auction ads.

As a Canadian buyer I send a US $ check drawn on a Canadian bank- believe it or not 99/100 of these are accepted with no extra charges by the banks cashing them. No problems with acceptance.

However for a seller to send a Cdn check in Cdn funds is downright ignorant (IMHO). I don't do it and wouldn't expect any one else to.

...on every auction listing on eBay US it states that currency is US$.

Getting US$ cash or US$ checks or US$ MO's is really easy in Canada and there is no reason a customer shouldn't get you US$ of some sort.

Current exchange rate is about 1.5. If you are willing to accept CDN$ and want to be safe increase it a little, say to 1.55 or so and then quote the amount in CDN$
