"Joan Schaffer" early to mid-'80's work:

Over the summer, I went to an estate sale... a realtor had purchased a house in N. Georgia, including the contents. This place is in the N. GA. mts. where many retire, who can afford it; so I don't know if the artist was from this area, or where!
The Realtor knew nothing about the 'stuff' she was selling! It was not the kind of 'stuff' my pocketbook could open for...but then I saw a stack of 'paintings' against the wall- I got them all for a reasonable price. They are not even art of my liking- there was just 'something' about them...?? They are watercolors, I think. Some are finished, and signed. Some unfinished and not signed. Thanks for any help! mizscarlett1; here, on ebay and everywhere!

Hi mizscarlett,
Where in the North Georgia mountains? I'm in Rabun County a lot and I can ask around. Perhaps Joan Shaffer did some work at the Hambidge Center in Clayton? If so, she probably was a visiting artist.
Let me know, if no one else comes up with an answer for you, I'll be glad to ask some of the locals.

Most state art's councils keep a database of local artists. The Georgia Council for the Arts is in Atlanta. Most states have web sites.

I am in Franklin, just about 20 min. from clayton ,depending on who is driving!...(but I see you 'ain't from here' as you didn't say RabuRn co.!!)
HA!!
Any way, I think this estate thing was out highway 76; past the doctors' offices- we were just out riding and happened up on it, so I am not for certain that is where it was...
I asked everybody there who was milling around, but no one seemed to know anything. I got there the 3rd. day of the sale, and these pieces were upstsairs (ooh, hot up there!) and I am sure a lot of folks were either older'n me and couldn't GET up the stairs; or once they got there, couldn't stand the heat!
Thanks to all who have replied. I will check out the artists thingie in Atlanta!
