I was going to post a reply to another thread but believe this is a unique topic of possible merit. I just received my 3rd NEG after many hundreds of +++. In EVERY CASE the negs have been from total idiots. I used to worry and wonder "what if I get a NEG, oh woe is me". But, the ++ just kept on building until that fateful day when "El Cretino" negged me because the shirt sent was XL and his girlfriend was XXL (his words, not mine). Now, to be sure, I had offered to either exchange the shirt or refund his money, but no Chihuahua! My man preferred to write a scathing NEG complete with expletives not deleted.

The next one was deadbeat who reneged on his winning bid and then had the cojones to give ME a NEG for not sending him the item. Confucius say "no tickee no washee"!!

The last one was too much. I had run out of stock of an item (happens occasionally) and I told the buyer not to send money until I got my new shipment in. "No way Jose", said Sr. Instanto Gratificazione. If my item is not il arrivo in two days then il negativo to you.

Now, I could care less about negatives. I know I do the best I can which ranks right up there with the most dependable of all eBay sellers. I only wish Wal-Mart was as accurate as I am regarding transactions (that is yet another story for another time).

What I am really doing is killing time waiting for my re-lists which are now about two hours overdue as a result of eBay's crash last Sunday.

Agree wholeheartedly with your assessment of Negative Feedback, kleavitt. If you have enough positives the Negatives start looking like they must have been posted by kooks, seeing as they're so few and far between in your feedback history.

It's important to simply do your best day in and day out. There is no way to stop the negs, it goes with the territory.

thx marie

kleavitt: I agree with your thoughts on negative feedback; I have 2 negs out of 110 positives--both from non-paying bidders. Some of those posters seem to be living la vida loca (love your Spanish).

Right on kleavitt!

Now, if people take your advice about this a little better than they took mine about PayPal when it first reared it's "free" head, the world would be a better place

As a bidder, I look at the negative count, compare it to the overall count, and try to find at least one or a few of those negatives, then look at the FB of the person who posted that negative, to see what their ratings are like.

The one leaving the negative often as a high negative rate. I've even seen some who have eight positives and seven negatives to their name, so I'll usually discount the negative they left for someone else.

Where I start balking on bidding is when the sellers starts getting four or five percent negative overall, but depending on what the comments say, if they were placed by a variety of people instead of just one, etc.

I doubt every bidder is as thorough, but the ones who aren't probably just look and distinguish between a few negatives against hundreds of positives, versus a few dozen negatives per hundreds, etc.

I've yet to be burned by my caution, though I've "only" bid a few dozen times myself.

So personally, I wish more negatives would be placed when deserved (refering to the threads about sellers fearing the retaliatory negative, because I'm personally willing to weed out and ignore apparent crank negatives, while still wanting to see if there are too many genuine negatives for my comfort.

Just my opinion, though.

What's being done in the name of direct marketing nowadays is crazy.
The above are all just my opinions, except where I cite facts as such.
Oh, I am not dc9a320 anywhere except AW. Any others are not me.
Is eBay is changing from a world bazaar into a bizarre world?

It isn't hard to tell the difference between a legit neg and an illegit jerk. Hang in there!
