Since I can't get into Ebay, would someone please advise me here? I have a friend wanting me to list a vintage fishing pole. It doesn't break down into smaller pieces. How would I go about shipping it? Would the post office even ship something this awkward? UPS doesn't insure antiques so I hate to use them. Any advise?

Have never shipped one but could you consider packing it in some PVC plumbing pipe to protect it, then capping the ends?

How long is it?
Here are the measurements accepted at USPS (from the website).
A Large Package
(The length of its longest side plus the distance around its thickest part is more than 84" and less than or equal to 108" )
An Oversized Package
(The length of its longest side plus the distance around its thickest part is more than 108" and less than or equal to 130" )

Thank you! ) I wondered about using PVC pipe, also. I would have to devise a way to keep it from sliding and putting weight against the fragile tip. I don't know if bubble wrap would be enough or not. Would still like to know if someone has successfully shipped one of these.

I have a long item to ship soon I hope and went to my local carpet store, they have the heavy cardboard rolls and were happy to give them to me. Now all I have to do is have someone saw off the right length and figure out how to "cap" the ends.
They come in many lenghts also. and sizes by the way.

Why not call your local sporting goods or fishing tackle shop. They could give you info on shipping and probably have something to ship the rod in.

Duck tape? You mean send it by taping it to a duck? ) Or do you mean use duct tape to secure it?
Thanks everybody for the ideas!!
