I know there was a thread on this a few days ago but I just tried out the "new and improved" format and I HATE IT! I just spent an hour doing what used to take 15 minutes. I'll admit to being a "basic" computer user and maybe I missed something (like quick and easy techniques)...but I don't like:

A. Not being able to upload images directly from my hard drive like I was able to do previously.
B. Not being able to see what my auction would look like with images.
C. Getting some sort of error message about the template...I don't have a clue what that's all about and my auction looks fine.

I expect to get responses from folks more computer savvy than I about how old fuddy-duddies like me have to be pushed and shoved into new technology...BUT...I am curious...what are the advantages to this "new" way to launch auctions? Somehow, increasing the time it takes to prepare auctions for launch by 4 times does NOT seem like an improvement to me!

Sign me: Longing for the "good old days"...

I agree and I also hate that when you preview your auction it really doesn't look like it actually will. If they would remove the frame from the left side of the screen when one previews they would not look 'scrunched'.

Actually, I like the new format. It seems much faster to me. I'm confused about a couple of your comments.

I upload the images from my hard drive to AW just as I always have. As far as I can tell, that hasn't changed. And it's nice to be able to pick more than two pictures at a time.

I use the preview button at the bottom to see the auction with the images. Ok, that could be a little better but you can launch directly from there so I'm happy with it.

I don't know anything about the template problem.... Sorry.

For one thing I have webtv which AW is no longer friendly with other than the old format.

Secondly, I like to see what my html looks like before I push the submit button. Even before this last AW change, I was not able to properly preview my html like I can with honesty.com.

Another thing I like the way honesty.com allows me upload the pic as I am listing along with the option of selecting from my honesty.com image storage.

Lastly, as a webhead I can label my images so it is easier to select from the drop-down menu rather than going to the storage and selecting from "small" pics that all look alike (latter method is very time consuming). AW doesn't allow me to do this.

bobbysoxer,

With the new format, you do choose images by name from a drop-down menu. If you have other questions and concerns please post to the AuctionWatch.com Services forum, Auction Manager thread.

Customer Care Reps are at the ready to help and to get your feedback so improvements can be made.

I have deleted one of your posts that promotes a competitor.

Once again inconsistent monitoring prevails. I had the understanding that we could mention your competitors as long as we don't provide links.

BTW don't forget to delet my second posting in this thread. It too mentions your competitors. Also I will continue to lurk and post here on your message thread but I will no longer use your services.

Yes, Barbarake, it's not that difficult to load images from the hard drive. What I liked about the "old" system, however, was that I could do that as I developed my listing...it was all accomplished in one easy step. Now, I have to either upload all the images at once OR go back and forth from the launch site. Nit-picky, perhaps...but for my "style", it just seemed so much easier to do everything from one place. Another thing I don't like...Using the "old" style, I used to "experiment" with different templates to get the best "look" for my auctions. Changing templates, using the new format, seems to take FOREVER...plus...the images are NOT included in the final selected template so I don't know what my auctions will really look like. Maybe I haven't gotten it all figured out yet?

Still "Longing for the Good Old Days"...

Since I use both Webtv and a PC to list, half of my auctions MUST be posted from a competitor... If there were ANY WAY we could use AW for all our auctions, we would (and did until this horrible change). Had I not spent all day Sunday searching for a Webtv friendly host, I would have been thrilled to hear about a place to help me keep my business up and running. I guess I just don't understand why Bobbysoxer was censored..

bobbysoxer,

I am sorry you feel that moderation is inconsistent. The post I deleted was a post that mentioned the other site only, and gave the URL, there was no discussion, it was strictly a promotional posting.

While your second post mentions the other site I don't see it as being promotional.

If you wish to discuss the issue further, please start a thread in the Moderator's Corner.

I too hate the new format. There is nothing "IMPROVED" about it. In fact, it has eliminated a nice feature, the ability to edit the auction as you go (the refresh button), so you have to type html blindly and hope its right, or Preview over and over, back and forth, which is very tedious. The new format stinks.

YEP I'M YELLING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I MOST DEFINATELY DO NOT LIKE THE "SUPPOSED" NEW & IMPROVED FORMAT---FOR ME IT'S BECOME NOTHING MORE THEN A "NEW" AGGRAVATION, AS WELL AS A "NEW" WAY TO WASTE MORE PRECIOUS TIME WHILE TRYING TO DO WHAT I ONCE DID IN A WHOLE LOT LESS TIME ...PLEASE..JUST GIMME THE OLD WAY BACK---I'D BE PLEASED IF THEY HAD OFFERED BOTH WAYS- THE NEW, AND THE OLD FORMAT--ALLOWING US TO BE ABLE TO UTILIZE WHICHEVER FORMAT FLOATS OUR BOATS
I'M NOT OPPOSED TO CHANGE---IF IT'S A GOOD THING---HOWEVER, IN MY EYES --- THIS "NEW" FORMAT DOES NOT SEEM TO MEASURE UP TO BEING EVEN HALF AS GOOD, AND USER FRIENDLY AS I FOUND THE "OLD" WAY TO BE.
NO DOUBT THERE MUST HAVE BEEN REASONS FOR CREATING THIS "NEW" FORMAT---PERHAPS---JOB SECURITY BEING ONE OF THEM???
DEFINATELY TIME TO GO BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD AND EITHER FINE TUNE THIS PUPPY. HMMMMM MORE JOB SECURITY!!! OR JUST OFFER BOTH FORMATS.

I have mixed feelings about. I do like that it's all on 1 page... but the preview is harder to work with having to go back and forth. I'm glad the "seller pays shipping" default was changed. Too many near mess ups with that. There are other minor things that I dislike that will probably just need some "getting use to".
Also- I know my mother, who uses Netscape Communicator is having major problems and can't seem to get any help on the message boards or from AW support. She gets a "java script" error when on the listing page and there is NOTHING under the catergories... the window is empty! This just starting when the new feature was started. Does anyone know what the problem could be???

edited to say- "Auction Watch is still the best FREE image hosting/auction launching site I have found!"

Ok Dumb question time. I use A.W. Auction Manager Pro. I didn't upgrade to version 2.1 because I did not have any problems with the version I had.

So is this launching problem for Auction Manager Pro or is you are listing from the AW site??

mildreds From the AW site, not your bulk lister.

I have tried it and I could live with the new format EXCEPT that it seems to try to MAKE you use the inventory--which I tried before and HATED!

Now you have to use the inventory to change auction venues. So, if your item doesn't sell on say Yahoo and you want to change to Ebay, then you either have to start over with a completely new auction, or you have to keep the item in AW's inventory to switch sites. YUK!
