It depends on too many variables to say whether or not it will kill your sales. Some items it works for and some it will work against...it may have just as much to do with the number of bidders and how they feel like buying at a given time.
It may not hurt nearly so much as you think.

Some sellers it will hurt, I see it making the market for retail items VERY cut throat. Sellers that are selling collectibles, antiques, and such probably aren't going to use it.

What I think you will see happen is some of the insane runs you see on eBay will slow down, and prices will drop - on the other hand, Yahoo and other sites have had a BUY NOW auction structure for a long time, and only a minority of people/sellers use it.....greed is the issue that keeps many sellers from using it - so I doubt it will have a major impact on the eBay market - it didn't on Yahoo.
Personally, that is all I use on Yahoo and I LOVE THE BUY PRICE auctions, fast turn, I hate waiting forever for an auction to close, I'd rather take less and sell more.
Just my opinion....

Jwpc..I agree with most of what you say...except the part about "greed". I don't see it as greed but good ol' maximizing profits.

I want the maximum amount for my item (call me silly). If 'greed' is the word you choose to apply to that thinking then fine by me.
I'd rather take less and sell more.
I'd rather sell less and take more.

Ebay is bulging at the seams. ~Buy it Now~ will loosen it up.
Antiques and Collectibles will hold there ground... I hope.
HOWEVER ...if you list new items...I bet you will be put to the test with ~BUY IT NOW~.
Good luck to us all.

I agree with your view. If you're running a gas station and there is another across the street from you then you better price your product carefully. I see the same situation on eBay.

eBay sellers have had the "Buy It Now" option for several months... That's how long eBay has been "suggesting" that sellers list their videos, CDs and books over at Half.com.
