Hi everyone
I don't usually post here but I'm so ticked at the moment. I'm a Canadian seller on ebay and have been for 2 years. I have over 600 feedbacks with no negative.
Last weekend, I took part in the "free listing day" promotion on the Ebay Canada site. Each time I listed an item, I got the message that the listing fee would be refunded. It never was. I wrote ebay and here is what they said:

Hello,

Thank you for writing and drawing our attention to your concern in this
important matter.

We are sorry that you were not issued insertion fee credit for the
auctions you listed on eBay.ca during the Canadian free listing day.

This free listing day was intended for and extended to those eBay
members registered through the eBay Canada site and unfortunately was
not granted to member's registered through the eBay U.S. core site.

So now they are telling me I have to re-register on the Canada site??? What about the name I have already built up? Nowhere did I find anything saying I have to be registered on the Canada site to get the free listing. Anyone else experienced this?

Sounds purrfectly logical to me, want the benefits of U.S. eBay, but free listing for Canada eBay, go figure.
It seems you're a United States Seller...

Twelvepole ........ I believe you missed the point? It has to do with registration. eBay Canada didn't exist when some of us Canucks started selling on eBay.

Purfectlycatz ......... Just chalk it up as another bone headed move by eBay. I also gave one of their reps a tongue lashing for not posting this on the Announcement Board, or giving Canuck sellers the heads up via email. They seem to have no problem sending email that has to do with Billpoint promos.
Idjits.

No reddeer, I didn't miss the point...why didn't the Canucks register at their own site? So what if you had to start afresh, it was after all a new site.
Should of been able to have the same nicks.

Twelvepole ......... Geesh, do you have any idea at all what you're talking about?

ALL ebay sellers have *always* been able to sell on *any* portion of eBay, during the Free Listing Days. No need to re-register.
If someone lists something on eBay Canada, or eBay UK, or any of the other eBay co sites their listings show up on the main U.S. site as well. There is nothing new about this?
I don't have to re-register to list items on eBay Canada, or anywhere else on eBay. Nor did it mention this "little" detail on the eBay Canada Home Page on eBay. Perhaps you should read the info, before commenting on something you obviously know nothing about?

I know U.S. sellers that listed several thousand items on the UK site during it's Free Listing period, they never had to register on the UK site to do so, nor should they have to.

Purfectlycatz .......... I wouldn't buy that story from eBay for one minute, give them the item #'s & demand a credit for each & every item listed.
BTW - I also noticed that many Canadian sellers were complaining that they too got stiffed on their fees during the so called "free listing day" - they were told by an eBay rep that they would have to email all the item #'s to Billing & they would get a refund.

Just another typical SNAFU by the fine folks at eBay.

Well I would send the replies to your info to [email protected] and ask why your request was denied when the website clearly told you the listing fees would be credited each time you listed.... yo listed expecting them to be refunded.

Geesh reddeer, you're the one who brought up registration and from the first post it appears eBay does want you people to register through eBay Canada.

But after all you have the inside contacts and being the know all of Canadian Sellers, I guess you maybe right.

Twelvepole ........ I am right, and thanks for making note of that. I didn't bring the registration up, it was mentioned in the initial post.

FYI - If I go to the eBay Canada site & attempt to register, this is what I get from eBay:
...................................
Registration already confirmed! There is no need to register again, because your registration has already been confirmed. Click here to: Request a new password Change your User ID Change your registration information
....................................

Does that help clear things up for you?

No, No, No...as someone posted earlier, all you have to do is SIGN IN at http://www.ca.ebay.com and then do your listing through the site. Your US ebay username is legit on the Canadian site, you just have to USE the Canadian site. I joined Ebay USA in 1998 and then switched to Ebay Canada...no difference, just a different home page. Same feeback, username, etc. BUT, from what I understand on free listing day is that ALL your auctions listed have to 1) be listed through Ebay Canada and 2) be in CANADIAN dollars. I've never used these days for that reason. I find very few people bid if in Canadian dollars. Makes no sense since it's far less than US. Anyhoo...any listing through Ebay Canada will show up on Ebay USA, or ANY of the Ebay's simply if you state you ship internationally or to the USA (or where ever you specify) Clear as mud, eh? ;O)

Village ..... "no no no" ....... what?

I think the originator of this thread knew how to list via the eBay Canada site, but that wasn't the problem. The problem was widespread with eBay not refunding the listing fees to Canadian sellers who listed in Cdn $$ on the eBay Canada site.

SORT of on the subject. Excluding "Free" days, WHAT would be the advantage of listing through the Canadian or UK eBay site? If I mark that I ship everything internationally, what advantage would it be for me to then post on the Canadian, UK, or any other foreign site?

Apart from the fact that the Canada site takes longer to load (thus sugggesting that eBay may be down again, which is always an adventure!), the only other difference may be the type of currency the item is listed in. If I were a Yank looking at the Canada pages, and if I wasn't aware of the exchange rate (some really aren't you know!), I would be chased off by the prices

From what I understood, the originator of this thread didn't list in Canadian funds...something Ebay insists on their free listing days. Did you sign in on Ebay Canada, purrrfectlycatz? It doesn't seem right that they only provide free listing days in CD funds...I don't know what the advantage is listing on certain sites. I guess the thing I like about the Canada site is that I can search for items available to Canada and located in Canada. Less disappointing than when you find an item and discover they only ship to US. /

Village2 - Yes, I signed in on the Canadian site and I listed my items in Canadian dollars. I've replied to the initial denial to the email and am still waiting for a response.
