I had an auction up with a reserve of $95. Reserve was not met, the highest bid was $81. I brought the auction up, and looked at the Bid History. The high bidder had bid a total of 6 times, each bid the same amount, all 6 bids within 6 minutes.
Now, why would a person keep bidding the same amount, 6 times in 6 minutes? This was a whole day before the auction closed as well. This bidder has a feedback of 8 positives.
Weird...and this brings up a second question. Would you email the high bidder and offer the item, splitting the difference, and asking them if they would be willing to pay $88 for the item?

Meya, what you see for the highest bidder is his highest bid, not his maximum. So he kept increasing his maximum bid, apparently hoping to hit the reserve, but his bid did not go up because nobody was bidding against him.
I'd think that since he was so close, he'd probably like it if you offered the item to him.

May have been a problem with his ISP or mouse (a multiple post 'oopsy' kind of thing). If you offer a saw off deal outside of eBay, eBay may be able to rap your knuckles for something like fee avoidance, or contacting a registered eBay user on a Tuesday ... never know with these guys

Hi Meya...
If it's this close, I write them and tell them my reserve and ask them to let me know if they're still interested. They usually buy...sometimes free shipping will clinch it.

Meya .... He didn't bid the same amount, the bid history only shows the max amount placed by the underbidders, never the high bidder.
Had he bid $200, all that would have showed with his last bid is your reserve amount of $95.00 Chances are he was trying to inch his way up to the reserve amount, and eventually gave up.

Oh duh! He was probably upping his bid by a dollar each time, so he was most likely closing in on my reserve anyway. Funny thing these auctions...lots of the same item have closed at least at my $95 reserve, and over. Ah well...

The end of auction from ebay when a reserve is not met says, "the seller does not have to sell at this bid" it does not say they can't still sell it. I have emailed the buyer when they were close to reserve. It can't hurt and it sure beats relisting.

I emailed the high bidder and offered the item with me paying shipping and insurance if he paid via BidPay. It can't hurt...

First time I bid on Ebay, I was so anxious to get the item, and so afraid someone else might, that I kept raising my own bid...And I just did NOT understand the proxy thingy... Never occurred to me that this could have been construed as "Shilling"....except I had Zero feedback...obviously a newbie...
