I got alot of these textiles from a friend who had an antique store. The guy that sent them to her was in the entertainment industry in Hollywood, and traveled all over Europe to find furnishings and props for movies back in the 40's and 50's. Many that he found were authentic (so they look to me, anyway, but I aint no expert). This one particular item is to be worn over the front of the body, but I dont know the name of it. Does anyone here know the correct term, or even the era? Its very heavy brocade, and the fringe top is where it hooked over the sholders.

Hi
Sorry I cant put a name to it, but it looks like a breast plate cover for a coat of armor, possibly a knight of the church because of the cross.

Thanks HCQ. Would you mind if I hollered for you when I get the rest ready to list? Got some really interesting things here and I dont have any idea what they are.

Surely you jest! My favorite pastime. Holler anytime.
BTW, since this isn't a complete piece I'd put it in Antiques/Textiles/General and suggest that if the purchaser didn't want to display it whole, it'd be great for use in crazy quilts.

This is an antique Roman-style chasuble and based on its fabric, I would guess at least 19th century or at the latest early 20th century. I would suggest you list it under Collectibles: Religious: Christianity, where there is a hot market for chasubles, even those which require repair. Does this have both sides of the piece--it's meant to be worn over the neck for the celebration of Mass. Also do you have the matching stoles--long scarf-like things about 6-8 feet long? That would make a lot of difference in the value.
