I am sick of it. Do your friends and relatives bother you with this? Everyone wants to get into the act. They ignored me 3 years ago when I tried to tell them to sell on Ebay. Now are begging me to come by and teach them. I would not have minded THEN but the Ebay world is oversaturated as it is.
And these people never gave me the time of day before.
What is with people?

My standard response to those who want me to "teach" them is:

"I'd LOVE to. I get $35 per hour to teach non-relatives. I get $50 an hour to teach relatives. What time would you like for me to schedule you for?"

That's usually enough said. BTW, that also works for those who want you to "teach them how to build a website".

Send them to www.ebay.com and tell them to read the rules and figure out how to do it themselves. Either that, or develop a "Billable Hours" sheet with the rates for lessons. Anything less than $30 per hour is too little.

eventer: LOL - I needed that response years ago! My mother comes from South America where everyone is a relative. When I ask how Cousin Sue fits into the family, it's like

"My aunt's stepmother's brother-in-law's half-cousin's cousin by marriage."

At my wedding, I told my mother to keep the list down to one-minute relatives. Those are relatives where it takes a minute or less to explain the relationship.

Some of my mother's "relatives" are so distant that if they bore the same relationship to Howard Hughes, they wouldn't have bothered filing for a piece of the will.

But they're always calling for computer help and if I don't drop everything and deal with it, my mother calls later and asks, "How can you do that to my cousin?"

I never realized the answer was so simple. Charge more for relatives and suddenly my family will get so much smaller.

I get atleast one long distance (GOD, thank YOU for not letting me live closer) from a sister asking me how to attach something to an email.

I walk them through it step by step.

A weeks later, I get a phone call from a sister, asking how to attach something to an email.

Searching the safe deposit box, PRAYING I find the adoption papers in there. I CANNOT be blood related to these people.

I get $50 an hour to teach relatives.

I'm not sure that would be enough. Some of my relatives, I should probably charge $50 an hour, just to be in the same room with.

I'm teaching a course in online auctions at one of the local community schools. It fills up quickly at $69 for 4 nights, 2 hours each.

Give them the link to eBay University and let them sign up for it.

Or, point them in the direction of eBay's threaded boards - the pinsk are conducting tutorials on one of 'em.

I say: Stop Teaching people- if they really really want to know- let them learn themselves - like we did!!! Also, EBAY has got too many sellers as it is....EBAY is already flooded!!!

"Teach Ebay"??? This would be the blind leading the blind. Do yourself and your friends a favor. Learn how to sell online without eBay and "teach" your friends so they don't get fleeced paying ebay's fees.

Distance makes the heart grow fonder. How many of us moved away from our dysfuntional relatives only to realize we were dysfunctional too?

I don't think you can teach anyone eBay. On the surface there is very little to learn. Secondly, there is way too much you have to know about too many things: business, Internet, computers, whatever you are selling, marketing, shipping, etc. Most of the latter stuff is second nature to me, the former stuff is just following directions.
