In order to view them, you need to fill out the survey. You'll find a link to the survey in the right-hand column in the threaded boards at eBay.

(The changes are pretty cool!)

Glenda

Frankly it doesn't matter how 'cool' they are. The way the site has been running lately there will be a lot of bankrupt sellers who won't really care.

Traditionally November is the best month to sell on eBay. In their wisdon, The PTB at eBAy have now made it the worst month of the year.

Glenda - Finally have a thread in which I can say thanks to you for sharing your knowledge of the workings of ebay.

Many times I've read your posts and have wanted to thank you, but didn't. I really appreciate you posting on AW and the help you give to many users, myself included.

Now, I'll go see what's new on 'my ebay'.

Thank you, Linda_K. I hope you post back here with what your take is on the changes...

cdnbooks, I understand completely. I think that making changes that affect selling and buying should definitely not be made at this time of the year (and have told them so several times).

Glenda, thanks for the tip.

I like most of the proposed changes. Being able to customize the page more would be great -- and it looks like they might be doing away with the tabbed design.

Among the things I don't like:

1) Billpoint payment information incorporated into an "items I've sold" heading (though I would like having "items I've sold" available). They're really pushing Billpoint.

2) Asking if we (as bidders) want to see information about the date an item has shipped, delivery method and tracking, etc. That means eBay wants sellers to give them more information, and eBay would be more involved in the entire selling/payment/shipping process.

3) Asking if we (as sellers) want to see information about our original cost for the item (!!), when we shipped it, etc. This also means that eBay wants to be more involved in our process! I'm not sure if I like that.

roxwy: Nah, you're not slow - it takes a bit of finding. Go here:

http://remarq.ebay.com/ebay/threads.asp?g=discuss%2Eebay%2Emy%2Debay&nav=LAST

Then look on the right-hand side of the page, under Topics of the Day. The link to the survey is the second item down.

(Ordinarily I'd give the direct link to the survey, but they're inserting a code in the URL so each person can only take the survey once.)

ph44: That link is to a "used" survey - see the numbers at the end? That's the code they assigned you when you filled out the survey. People will only get a message thanking them for completing it if they use that link.

RainyBear:

I initially thought the Billpoint stuff was a bit ... tacky ... but it's understandable that they would want to promote their own company. It'll be easily ignored for those who don't use Billpoint, I think.

As for your second and third comments, I think they are perhaps trying to implement what they perceive as good things from Andale. I think they'll end up making it too labor-intensive and annoying if they do that (which is why, of course, that Andale isn't as popular with bidders and sellers as they may think it is).

Thanks Glenda and Ph44...
That was interesting. I like the new look, some of the stuff I could do without... but I'm one that thinks NEW STUFF isn't so bad.

I like several of the new changes (Items I've Sold, My Favorite Sellers, Items I've won, etc..), however I don't think that some of them will work very well.

(The part about when the item was shipped, ect..) Metaexchange has something similar to this and nobody provides the information necessary to make it useful.

Some of the other proposed features are totally useless.

I appreciate your comment.

"I think that making changes that affect selling and buying should definitely not be made at this time of the year (and have told them so several times)."

Keep telling them! There is way too much at stake for many sellers to have eBay PLAYING with the site during the pre-Holiday season.

Thanks

Bill

Okay, checked it out. As a buyer I like almost all of the proposed changes. As a seller I like it too, but my biggest concern would be relying on this function to be available 24/7. I'd probably still keep a paper track.

Looks to me like maybe both buyers and sellers, who don't use some sort of auction manager program would find these changes useful.

The feature I liked the most was the one offering the ability to delete anything on ones my-ebay page. Don't like having all I'd bid on and things I'd sold remain for 30 days. Too much clutter.

BUT I did read a couple of the threads on ebay and it seems many large volume sellers are upset at the 300 auction (per 30 days) limit. That would never have an affect on me, but I sure can understand why powersellers would be upset with that limit.

Thanks again, Glenda

I like some of the changes but there are two things I dont like:

1) Billpoint. I don't use it so to me it serves no purpose and would only be clutter.

2) The function allowing sellers to see what the original price for an item was. WHAT?! So if I buy a book for 25 cents at a yard sale and I sell it for $30.00, do I really care what I originally paid for it? Other than I like knowing I made a good profit. I dont see the use of that feature at all!

I wish there was some way to view the screen shots besides taking the survey. The Javascripts weren't working when I took the survey, and now there's no way to go back and see them.

And at year end all of the information will be forwarded to the good old IRS . Maybe even it will automatically send you a tax bill....... God Bless EBay

Linda_K: I think somebody at eBay told me the 300-limit is just temporary and should be lifted by the time they implement the changes. I THINK they might set it up so a default amount shows up, with a link to show more (not a link to Seller Search, though, as they suggest now).

As a seller, I wish ebay wouldn't go tinkering with the site during this pre-holiday time too. My "Selling" feature under "My Ebay" has been frozen for a week. I e-mailed ebay about it and was told that it was fine and was probably just slow. It's not slow, it doesn't work at all. The only way I can check on my auctions is to search by seller. It has my Auction Watch "Auction Manager" screen frozen too. I can't tell how many hits I'm getting and my last batch of posted auctions doesn't even show up at all. I don't know what to do.

Boy, you had me confused. I got My eBay mixed up with the About Me page! I couldn't figure out why I should share with the world what I paid for the things I sell, boy am I glad that's not what they are trying to do!

Edited to say: If a person wanted to use this as an auction management tool, they should add $100.00 to the initial bid price for their auctions. If eBay sends that info to the IRS, you would be entitled to a refund! And you would always know to subtract the $100.00 to find out your real cost!

The My ebaY 300 limit is scheduled to be lifted in January, but a workaround is to access your My ebaY through one of the backdoor sites such as ebaY UK or AU. Both the US and Canada are disabled, but from what I understand not the other countries. -Rosalinda
