Hi I have this oil painting, not sure what it is worth, it is signed Jean Martell on the back it says: by J. Martell 1968. Does anyone know what I should start this out at? Your help is much appreciated. Here is a pic of it.

Thanks,
Kelly

Kellyrj32, you have the wrong URL for your photo. You need to click on the picture in your Auction Manager and then right click on the photo to get the correct URL. It should start with:
http://imagehost.auctionwatch.com/preview

(Watch somebody make me eat my words, but) Looks like amateur stuff to me, but it's got a weirdly appealing surrealism. I'd put it in Outsider Art and start it at about $20, although it's likely the frame is worth more than that if it's of any size. You may not get a bite; OTOH, you may be surprised.

Kelly,

Here's a good artists reference site. In case you find any other paintings you want to check out. (didn't find this artist listed)

Go to Art:Amateur or Outsider Art and take a look at the offerings. I think you'll be convinced to list it.

Looks like basic amateur - you might get something in outsider. IMO, the frame is what will get you bids. You would need a better picture of that.

Very amatuer - and straight out of a beginners "HOW TO" book.

Maybe it's just the lighting, but it looks like it's been painted over on the top right corner. I think I can make out some letters "souv...de..mau...vin...."

Outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend. Inside a dog, it's too dark to read.

It looks amature to me. I would start no
higher than 5 bucks. The frame may be worth
a few dollars.
