Hi All:
A friend has an old sofa and end chair, which are in great condition, that they are trying to identify and value, if possible. They said that these pieces are from 1923 or 24. Can anyone identify these pieces or give any idea on value? Here are some pictures of the sofa.
Does anyone know of a site that deals with furniture items where I can ask some questions or even post some pics for evaluation. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks for any help!

Hi there,
It looks like a Victorian style sofa that you have, which may have been made around the turn of the century or later. Auction Watch has an appraisal service which you should check out. It is very minimal in cost and I have seen some users put appraisals in their auction listings. Gives the bidder a "feel good".
Hope this helps somewhat.

It is 1930s "French Provincial" (the clue is the outswept upholstered arms and excessively "dainty" feet supporting a rather hefty sofa - Victorian ones typically had wooden rims on the arms, were more upright and had a larger understructure ... often with casters.) It could also be a Mexican-made one from last year - that style has been popular there for the last 50 years.
If it weighs as much as the rest of them, selling locally is your best option, or REGIONAL with the explicit declaration that buyer picks it up after the auction.
Pricing depends WILDLY on local supply and demand

What [b]abacaxi[/i] said, although I'd date it a wee bit later (maybe early '40s), but she's probably more on the money. Available at any Goodwill for $50 or less.
One of these was my first RL auction purchase back in 1978. $5. Cost us $25 to have it hauled across town.

Can't buy it for $50.00 at any Goodwill in my area. I keep telling DH that the guy with the price gun at GW thinks he's at Tiffany's

Yeah, but this sofa's in good shape. If the upholstery were shredded, Goodwill would think it's an Antique and therefore worth more I swear, the more beat up an item is, the more valuable they consider it.

Does your friend live near the southern border of the US? The sofa looks an awful lot like the colonial style furniture you see all over Central America.
