Hello,
I was just revising an auction and saw I could add Buy it Now to the auction too. Well I did and when it was changed I noticed that to Buy it Now, the buyer has to have their credit card on file with eBay or pay $5.00 and answer questions to be verified for 1 year. OK, I don't know if it's going to be very popular with how much privacy people want, not wanting their credit card on file, etc. Just thought I'd get this info to you all.

I think it's a good thing to verify. Today I had a buyer's billpoint echeck bounce, they have no points and I'm glad it wasn't a paper check. This person also had a different name than the one on check, totally different. I wrote to billpoint but haven't heard back yet. I told the buyer to send a money order. I was supicious in the first place because she told me she had paid and had I mailed her item yet, then I told her she was mistaken she hadn't, then she "paid" with Billpoint echeck. I've never had anything like that happen before. Fraud? I have 6 auctions currently and had added buy it now to all, so I'll wait and see how it goes.

I am afraid I can't agree - we use 1ST BID WINS on Yahoo all the time with absolutely no competitor problems, and we do have lots of competition in certain areas.
The biggest problem is competitors turning auctions in to SafeHarbor for some phony eBay violations - now that is the pits and we have had that happen both on eBay and Yahoo.

I just had the phony SafeHarbor complaint happen to me about a week ago. I knew exactly who did it too. It was a competitor selling the same items. So, as a dutiful person I wrote to SafeHarbor and explained that I wouldn't tolerate that. I then detailed 74 auction violations in that sellers current list. It took them 4 days to get back to me but when they did they apologized, informed me they had cancelled all of the auctions I listed and informed that seller that if she ever files false info with SafeHarbor again she will be suspended. I noticed that seller has not run any more auctions since. She normally has around 125 - 150 a week.

Doing REALLY well Zazz. Hope that you are also.
jw: I agree, that with the verification in place, such as is the case with Yahoo, the problems I mentioned become very minimal.
As to your OTHER point about competitors flooding ebay with trivial, or non-existant complaints to get auctions shut down, I could not agree with you more.
The worst part is, the ones doing the turning in, are usually listing the SAME items, the SAME way that they are complaining about.
The staff at ebay is just either too lazy, too dumb, or too incompetant to figuere that out.
