My auction for a Christmas related book ended last night, I emailed buyer and when I got home from work today I got this message...
Hi! I am so glad to have won the auction, as this lady is one of my
favorite authors. I have had some unexpected medical bills and will
need a couple of weeks to get the money together. Can you wait? My
address is XXXXXXXX I will be paying by money order or check depending on if I can
find the type money order you need. Thank you.
I normally wouldn't mind but I am still waiting for payment for an auction that ended over a month ago. My concern here is that this is a time sensitive item, and if I wait 2 weeks, or more and she still does not pay, I may be too late to sell it to someone else and have enough time to ship it to them for Christmas. I would really just like to offer it to the next highest bidder.
Any suggestions on how to deal with this without sounding like a you know what!

Interesting wonder why They would bid a take it now price if they want a week or two to save for the Item .
this sounds like its working just like yahoos auctions this is how the young kids were doing things before yahoo started credit card verification.
this bidder mentions medical bills and they could be telling truth they may have medical bills but if you wait for this buyer keep in contact with them I have honored request like this but find if this runs over 9 days the better the chance is the bidder will lose interest in the Item.
your best bet is to agree to hold the Item for a small deposit like maybe ask they send shipping fee to hold it this will help hold there interest .

The way I handle this kind of deal is tell the buyer to go ahead and send the check and post date it. Make sure to be clear that if you don't receive the check in 5 days from when they receive your email you will be relisting the item. Also when you send this email ask the buyer to return your email with there shipping address so you can prepare the package, you have a 50/50 chance of ever hearing back from them. [email protected]
