I went into Yahoo to register as a seller, I have sold on Ebay for about 1 year and thought what the heck I'll try. However when I went to register it showed someone already had the User ID name I use on ebay. I don't want to change mine, I have had it for 1 year, and it is also the name of my business. But I don't want anything they do to reflect on me. Currently they do not have any auctions, and are just newly registered. Any suggestions??? This is not my ebay name.

How about something like TheRealLorndav or 1stLornDav? (plugging in your read ID, of course).

Same thing happened to me on Yahoo, too.

Hi -- sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but there's really nothing you can do about someone else using the same ID on Yahoo which you chose on eBay. That's why some people go around and "stake out" their chosen user names at multiple sites even when they don't plan on using them there, just so no one else will take them.

The good news is that the person who registered with Yahoo may not plan to do auctions at all. A Yahoo ID is used for many things, including email, personal calendar, etc. I registered "RainyBear" with Yahoo before I had any clue about Internet auctions and I've never run an auction on Yahoo, plus I use a different ID on eBay. This person may not plan on running auctions either.

I've suggest you pick a similar ID to use on Yahoo.

The same thing happened to me there, too.

The person registered the id some time ago, but has never listed anything for sale - I assume she buys under the id.

There is really nothing to do except come up with another id - the id you register at each location applies only to that particular site.

Thanks guys! If the person does start listing do you think I should put in my Ebay auctions that I am a differnt seller than the one on Yahoo AND amazon? I could kick myself for not doing all the siies at once a year ago! I did go in and get every other site I could think of.

lorndav:

I do not mean this at all crass, but perhaps they feel the same way about you?, and after registering at Yahoo, found that "Their" ID was already taken on eBay?

Look at it this way, maybe they will be the GREATEST seller on Yahoo, and that may HELP your eBay sales

Lorndav: The same thing happened to me. However, I am actually finding it an advantage now to have a different username on Yahoo:

All of my auctions on Yahoo are 1st Bid Wins. My minimum bid reflects that strategy - reasonable prices to tempt a bid but a higher price than I would start the bidding at on eBay.

My end of auction Yahoo e-mail shows my username on both eBay and Yahoo.

On the other hand, my end-of-auction eBay e-mail may or may not show my Yahoo username. It depends on whether or not the bidder bid a lot more than I am selling the same item for on Yahoo. Nothing discourages repeat business than for a buyer to find out he/she could have purchased the same item from the same seller at a lower price.

By the way, today (Friday, November 17) is the LAST DAY you can convert your eBay feedback to credits on Yahoo. You get a $1.00 credit for each eBay feedback point you have. These credits can be used to feature your auctions on Yahoo. Here is the link for more information.
