I have had two BUY PRICE auction winners. My eBud picked both up, as did My Ebay, BUT one of my items is still running even though the buy price and the opening price were exactly the same and it should have closed but didn't. My Ebay shows it closed, but you can easily go to the auction, and it has not ended. I just went in and closed it manually since obviously the eBay automatic close system isn't working perfectly (so what's new).
I've used the Yahoo "1st BID WINS" system for a long time, and have been on eBay for 5 years, so I really do know what I am doing - it just didn't close as it should.
Anyway - keep a watch on this if you are using BUY PRICE auctions.
Even when your OPENING BID AND YOUR BUY PRICE BID ARE THE SAME - it may not close your auction when someone bids!

Doesn't the buyer actually have to click on the "buy it now" button on the bid form in order for it to be "bought now"? Even if the price is the same, if the buyer clicked on the normal "bid" button the BIN option disapears and the item continues on as a usual auction.

I'm not sure - but My Ebay shows it closed, eBud picked it up as closed. So - it doesn't make sense to me except that the system just isn't working correctly.

The auction wouldn't "close" unless the person had actually "bought it now." If they bid, the "buy it now" should go away , but the auction would continue as a regular auction.
Seems possible to me that eBud might not get that right the first time out the door, but if My eBay shows only one instance of the auction and it's closed there but still running, you should report it to Support.

Posted this morning on the AB:
Dear eBay community,
Earlier today we introduced a new feature, Buy It Now!
There is a small bug when sellers list using the Buy it Now feature and their opening bid price is the same amount as their Buy it Now price. This bug does not affect regular bidding, only the Buy it Now feature. This bug will be fixed by tomorrow, however, if you have listed an item with Buy it Now and
the Buy it Now and opening bid prices are the same and are non whole dollars ($9.99, 9.95, etc.) you will have to revise the item and increase the Buy it Now amount by one cent or greater in order for the Buy it Now feature to work. Or you can wait until tomorrow for us to implement the fix.
If you intend to list an item using the Buy it Now! feature and want the Buy it Now! and opening bid price to be equal, we encourage you to use whole numbers ($8.00, $9.00, etc) or set the Buy it Now! price at least one cent greater than the opening bid price.
If you want see if this bug impacts your item, you can click on the Buy it Now icon on the View Item page. If you do not receive an error, you do not have to revise your item listing.
We apologize for any inconvenience that this will cause.

THANKS for that note, Obviously I need to change mine as I always use something.95 - but eBay may have fixed it as I just had one auction close at 44.00 and I never use round numbers....I'll go check and SURE APPRECIATE YOUR POSTING THIS.

IT JUST HAPPENED AGAIN - Had another "BUY IT NOW" auction close - it showed closed in "MY EBAY" and eBud again picked it up as closed, the BUY IT NOW price and opening bid were the same - but when I checked the auction itself - it was up and running with a second bidder. I notified both bidders, fortunately had 2 of the item, sold to both, and again had to manually close the auction.
This must be a once in a while bug, as I had another one close a few minutes ago, and it totally closed, not half closed as I have had happen twice. VERY WEIRD - keep an eye on this if you are using BUT IT NOW!!!!!! Check you actually auction page - as this is where I have caught this bug twice.
